Meenakshi Pattabhishekam 2018

Description

Welcome to the grand celebration of Meenakshi Thirukalyanam, the royal wedding of Devi Meenakshi and Lord Sundareshwara. We are blessed to have darshan of this divine happening in the presence of 293rd Gurumahasannidhanam of Madurai Aadheenam, His Divine Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda, THE Avatar of Devi Meenakshi Herself and Lord Sundareshwara Himself.

Devi Meenakshi, the Cosmic mother, happened on Planet Earth thousands of years ago in the sacred land of Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Pandya king Malayadwaja Pandyan and his wife Kanchanamala had no heirs, so they performed the Putra Kameshti Yaga, the Vedic ritual to manifest fertility and have divine children. Out of the sacred fire of the Yaga emerged a beautiful young girl with three breasts. An ashariri, an unembodied voice, said "This divine child is destined to conquer the whole world. When she meets her soulmate the third breast will disappear".

Named Thadathagi, she grew up mastering all sixty four arts (kalas) including warfare, poetry, drawing, sculpting and more. Before being coronated queen, as was the practice, she set about conquering the world in all 10 directions. Finally she arrived to conquer Kailasha, but one look at the divine Paramashiva, she fell in love and her third breast disappeared. Paramashiva then descended to Madurai to marry her as the handsome Lord Sundareshwara, and the royal wedding was celebrated with pomp and splendour.

Even today in Madurai, the Meenakshi Tirukalyanam ritual is celebrated to entangle with the happening of this divine union. Nithyananda Peetham Bengaluru Aadheenam, and Nithyananda temples worldwide continue the tradition and celebrate this great happening
