September 30 20142014-09-30September 30 20142014-09-30A photograph of an outdoor temple courtyard at dusk. A priest in an orange-saffron dhoti and shawl, with a shaved head and arm bands, pours liquid from a small metal vessel into a fire pit with glowing flames and rising smoke. Beside him is a brass pot and offering plates with fruit and flowers. Behind him stands a large decorated deity murti on a turquoise-painted platform, draped with yellow marigold garlands, red flower garlands and gold ornaments, with a multi-headed serpent canopy above and lion figures at its base. Stone steps with red and white bands lead up to the shrine, with palm foliage and a small illuminated shrine structure in the background.2014-09-30A photograph of a fire ritual at an outdoor stone platform. A man in orange saffron cloth and an orange turban sits cross-legged on a striped rug, holding a long-handled ladle over a silver bowl of offerings beside a bright flame rising from a stone fire pit. Yellow marigold garlands and red flower petals lie on the rug. Behind the fire, a purple-draped altar displays deity murtis garlanded with yellow flowers. Brass plates hold red offerings and sweets, and a kalasha-like vessel sits nearby. This appears to be a homa or yagna with an oil-fed flame.2013-10-08September 21 20162016-09-21A photograph of an outdoor homa fire ritual. A seated priest in orange-saffron dhoti and orange turban sits behind a square brick fire pit with burning wood flames. He wears a long beaded rudraksha-style mala and a large pendant, and holds a ladle over a brass bowl beside the pit. Offerings including a basket of coconut or wood pieces, brass vessels, a small silver tray and fruit lie on a cloth. A yellow cart and red-and-white curbs stand in the background among palm trees. Only one physical person is visible.2016-09-03A homa being performed at a brick-lined fire pit decorated with yellow and red flower petals. A shaven-headed man in saffron robes and a multi-strand rudraksha-style bead necklace with a gold pendant feeds the flames with a ladle-like vessel, smoke rising around him. Beside him, a younger man in white clothing with a yellow shawl sits on the floor among brass pots, a kalasha-style vessel, bowls and trays. Behind, brass lamps stand near a pink and green cloth with garlands, and a brass plate holds offerings. The setting is a tiled ritual space with a pale floor.2009-09-22January 1st 2013September 21 20162016-09-21September 30 20072007-09-30A seated man in saffron-orange robes and a matching orange head wrap performs a fire ritual on a tiered white platform decorated with yellow and red flower garlands. A burning wood fire with flames rises at the centre, with brass oil lamps and a bowl of offerings nearby. He gestures with his hands toward a microphone in front of him. Behind the platform, a deity murti stands draped in a green cloth and garlanded with yellow and orange flowers. Bottles of water sit on the platform, and the scene is lit at night with smoke drifting in the background. The ritual appears to be a homa or yagna.2007-09-30Photograph of a fire ritual indoors. A sacrificial fire burns in a square pit of yellow bricks on a striped multicoloured mat, with a kalasha-style brass vessel and offerings nearby. A man in an orange-red sannyasi robe and matching turban, with rudraksha beads, stands at the fire holding a small flower and an oil lamp, while a second man in orange sits at the left edge. Behind them a seated figure in a red-brown robe sits before a gold ornate throne-like chair; the seated figure is not identifiable beyond this role. Two women in orange saris with prayer-folded hands stand at the right beside a wooden door frame. Marigolds and a magenta cloth-covered table with white-and-yellow decorated items complete the homa setting.2018-01-13 +1 copies
