In the foreground a shaven-headed man in orange robes with a rudraksha mala and white tilak marks on his forehead and arms holds a lit taper toward an unseen flame, his other arm extended. Behind him an older man in white dhoti with a red-bordered cloth and a beaded mala sits and lights a small lamp. A brass plate with flowers and small oil lamps sits on a red cloth in front. Two people are visible, with a partially visible third at the bottom edge. The setting suggests a pada puja ritual.2010-11-18 +1 copiesA man in a red-orange turban and matching draped cloth performs an evening ritual beside a fire. He wears a heavy gold bead necklace, rudraksha-style beads on the upper arm, gold earrings and a red tilak on his forehead, while holding a small brass oil lamp with a lit wick in one hand and a metal vessel in the other. Bright flames rise from a brass bowl in the foreground, consistent with a homa or puja fire, and a partly visible figure in orange sits at the left edge against a dark background. The man appears to be a priest performing the rite rather than a depicted or distinctively identified figure.2014-01-05A night-time photograph of a group of men in white ritual dhotis and shawls gathered under a corrugated roof, holding their hands together in prayer or reaching toward a lit oil lamp. A man in an orange-saffron garment with a tall ornate crown, a gold-beaded necklace and rudraksha-style beads holds the brass lamp with a bright flame, passing it among devotees; smoke rises above the flame. Several men wear white dhotis with sandalwood or vibhuti marks on their foreheads and rudraksha malas. The setting suggests a lamp-lighting ritual, possibly a Kartheekai Deepam aarti.2010-11-21Photograph of a seated ritual in a dim temple hall. A man in a maroon turban with gold border, maroon-and-gold shawl and a large rudraksha mala raises a silver lamp with a flame in his right hand, while other ritual participants in saffron-orange robes with beaded malas sit behind him. Brass bowls holding yellow and white offerings, incense sticks and a lit oil lamp sit in the foreground, and a gold-trimmed cabinet stands in the background. The scene reads as an aarti during puja.2014-09-06 +1 copiesA homa ritual photographed at night against a dark background, with smoke rising in the lower left. In the foreground a young priest in a white dhoti-style cloth and a pale yellow patterned turban, marked with a red forehead dot, wears a rudraksha mala and rudraksha armbands and holds a small offering tray with dried grass and a folded leaf over the fire. Behind him a second priest in an orange-saffron cloth, with a shaved head, white marks and rudraksha beads, sits with his hand raised to his chin. A brass vessel and a yellow flower sit at the lower edge beside a pale wooden log.2013-10-15May 20 20162016-05-20May 10 20182018-05-10 +1 copiesA night-time homa at a wooden fire pit with a large, bright flame. A man in a white dhoti with a green turban pours offerings from a steel bowl into the fire. Around him, priests in white and orange-red cloths wear rudraksha malas, and one bald priest has a white tilak on his forehead. A green-clad figure stands at the right edge, and brass offerings and a plantain leaf sit nearby. No one is clearly identified as a person by appearance cues.2015-01-04
