May 13 20152015-05-13May 13 20152015-05-13Outdoor ritual gathering under palm trees on a sunny day. Many people sit in rows on colourful striped mats, most men bare-chested in white dhotis with gold-bordered cloth. A central figure in an orange-saffron robe stands barefoot, holding a small brass vessel, while nearby a man in orange robe and rudraksha mala faces the group. Several standing attendants wear orange garments and beaded necklaces, and a few devotees wear white. Orange ceremonial umbrellas or decorated poles with fringed ornaments rise behind the crowd, with a chain-link fence and trees beyond. The scene suggests a puja or ritual offering in progress.2015-05-13May 13 20152015-05-13August 18 20162016-08-18May 13 20152015-05-13Outdoor ritual gathering on a striped cloth mat in a temple courtyard. A priest in white dhoti with bare chest, rudraksha mala and a sandalwood tilak sits at centre with hands extended over brass vessels and a small brass tray. Beside him a younger man in saffron robe and rudraksha mala performs the ritual with brass bowls and a plate. Around them thirty or more seated devotees in saffron and orange garments and white clothes sit in rows, several children among them. Behind them stands a red painted shrine with a dark deity murti garlanded in yellow flowers, surrounded by palms and greenery.2016-08-18 +2 copiesMay 13 20152015-05-13May 13 20152015-05-13A photograph of a long row of seated devotees in white dhotis and white shirts with orange-saffron shawls draped over their shoulders, sitting cross-legged on a concrete floor under an open pavilion. In front of them are banana leaves holding food such as flatbreads and fruit, small brass pots and steel tumblers, and tall bamboo poles run along the row. A shaven-headed man in the foreground looks forward while others eat or wait. A man in white bends over at the left edge, and white plastic chairs and tables are visible in the background under a thatched roof.2006-08-23May 13 20152015-05-13Outdoor ritual gathering under a large banyan tree with garlands hanging from its branches. Men in white dhotis and white shirts sit on the ground in rows behind several participants in saffron robes. A bald sannyasi in saffron kneels on a red patterned rug, bowing his head to the ground, while another saffron-clad priest sits on a low mat arranging brass pots, plates of offerings and small bowls. A standing saffron-robed attendant holds a long wooden staff. On the right, a man with long dark hair and a grey beard in saffron wrap holds a silver trident, and a seated figure with long hair and a saffron wrap, wearing a rudraksha mala, sits on a chair in the centre with his hands together. Brass vessels and a kettle sit on the ground in front, with mats and plates of fruit and food arranged around.2006-07-12
