A tall copper flagstaff, or dhvaja stambha, rises diagonally against a pale sky, its ringed copper shaft topped with a carved finial and a yellow-and-red tassel. At its base stands an ornate carved wooden or copper base wrapped with white jasmine garlands and green leaves. A single man in a dark reddish-brown robe, wearing a garland of yellow and red marigolds, pulls a rope attached to the staff with both hands, raised overhead. Coconut palms frame the scene. The flagstaff raising appears to be part of a temple festival.
