A photograph of a ceremonial scene beside a large terracotta-red ornate pillar with carved base and a small shrine-like top. A figure in saffron-orange robes and a gold-and-white garland stands on a raised red platform, holding a long orange rope that loops down toward the base. The figure has white forehead markings and long hair, and is smiling. A corrugated metal roof shelters the area; hanging striped cloth banners and a striped umbrella are visible at left. Around the platform, devotees in orange and white clothing stand close, with hands reaching toward the rope and base. Scattered petals lie on the stone.2013-02-28 +1 copiesFebruary 28 20132013-02-28Outdoor temple ceremony at a copper-clad dhwajastambha (flagstaff) festooned with yellow and white flower garlands and a lower band of colourful flowers. A man in a rust-red dhoti and wrap, wearing a red-and-orange marigold garland and a rudraksha-style neck mala, stands at right holding a rope pulled up beside the pole. Two men in saffron-orange robes stand on the base; one raises his arm to hold a rope tied to the pole while the other, bare-headed in orange cloth, steadies it with both hands. Palm trees and a grey sky surround the site. At the lower right, white-clad devotees with saffron shawls and rudraksha stand watching, one holding what appears to be a pooja tray. A yellow banner with dark lettering sits at the left edge. The scene suggests a flag-raising or pole-erection ceremony.2010-11-06February 28 20132013-02-28 +1 copies
