A photograph of a large floor rangoli made of flower petals laid on dry grass. The design is a symmetrical pattern of bands in marigold orange, yellow, red, white and green, with a central panel framed by a dome-like arch and a lotus-like motif in red and white. A blue plastic bag sits at the upper left, and a person in a light shirt kneels at the upper right, partly visible, working on the design. No ritual figures or deities are shown.2015-07-07A flower-garland banner stretches across a dirt road reading "WELCOME TO KAILASA" in yellow and magenta blossoms. Beneath it a long line of women in white and cream traditional saris stands on both sides of the road, many holding brass plates or trays, while a decorated procession with a palanquin or ratha moves in the distance. Vertical strips of marigold and multicoloured flower garlands frame the arch, banana leaves decorate the edges, and electric fans are placed along the route. Golden temple-style domes and a red structure appear in the background under a hazy sky.2017-12-16A photograph of a green metal gate decorated with strings of marigold and yellow flowers hanging in vertical lines. Above the gate a long banner made of yellow and magenta flowers spells out a welcome message. Palm-like leaves frame the entrance, and trees and a clear sky sit behind it. No people are visible.2017-12-16December 16 20172017-12-16A flower-decorated entrance gate with a large banner of marigold garlands reading WELCOME TO KAILASHA in yellow and magenta letters. Green panels are hung with strings of yellow, white, orange and purple flower garlands, and banana leaves frame the gate. A standing person in an orange-saffron robe with bare shoulders and an orange head cloth carries a silver vessel toward the gate, and a small crowd of visible heads and shoulders watches from the lower right on a red carpet. A deity murti appears at the upper right edge. Orange, yellow, red and pink marigold and gerbera garlands and loose petals trace the edges of a pale concrete platform. A man in a checked shirt crouches at the left edge arranging petals, and another man in a grey shirt stands behind holding a pink plastic-wrapped bundle. A blue tarpaulin covers an object near the back, and scattered plastic bags, wrappers and stems lie on the ground at right. Red and white bunting and a red canopy frame the scene, with palm-trunk poles at the right edge.2007-08-09Outdoor photo of a samadhi shrine covered with flower petals and garlands, with a large orange and pink floral Om symbol on a square bed of marigolds, roses and other blooms. Overhead, a thatched canopy with palm fronds and orange-and-yellow garlands frames the scene. A woman in a white blouse and dark skirt stands at the shrine. A figure in a long orange robe with a red-and-white bead garland stands at the centre-right with long dark hair; the appearance matches the a person candidate with cues of a long swept-back hair and orange robe, so this is a probable identification. Beside him a man in a checked shirt and white dhoti and a sadhu in an orange shawl and white kurta stand near the shrine. Other people in white and orange clothes move through a courtyard with a brick wall and red bunting in the background.2007-08-09Outdoor photo of a flower-decorated samadhi or memorial platform under a palm-frond canopy with orange and marigold garlands. The platform is covered in pink petals, with a yellow and orange marigold border and an Om-shaped floral design. A standing figure in an orange robe with a red beaded mala stands at the edge, with a bearded man in a white kurta and orange shawl beside him and other men in light shirts and white trousers nearby. Red ribbons and banana leaves surround the area, with a brick structure in the background.2007-08-09A long carpet of loose yellow and orange marigold petals with white jasmine-like flowers and red kumkum powder dots runs down a dirt path toward a yellow building. Corrugated metal sheets and banana tree trunks with green leaves line both sides. At the left edge, a drum with a dark rim and a person in white dhoti and shirt stand along the path; several other people in white and orange-saffron clothing are visible in the background. This appears to be a floral welcome path prepared for a procession or visiting dignitary.2014-07-01Two men kneel on red earth at an outdoor site, arranging marigold petals into large flower designs on white sheets. The nearest sheet holds an orange-petalled oval with a silver-outlined white swan-like or bird motif edged in purple, and a second sheet beside it shows a similar design with yellow petals. Plastic bags of petals sit nearby, and white tent walls and scattered sticks are visible behind. One more figure stands in the distance. The man at left wears a striped shirt and the man behind him wears a white shirt. Other petal mats lie in the background.2007-01-01January 04 20102010-01-04 +1 copies
