The setting is a tree-shaded courtyard with a few pillars at the left edge.2009-12-02Outdoor photo beneath a large banyan tree with sprawling aerial roots and branches. Dozens of devotees in white clothing sit on sandy ground in rows. A fire pit made of stacked yellow bricks sends up smoke, with offerings and a kalasha-like vessel nearby. A person in orange and white kneels at the fire pit while others stand in white and a camera on a tripod records the ceremony. The ground is scattered with rangoli-style markings.2005-01-24Outdoor ritual under a large banyan tree with dense aerial roots and sprawling branches. A man in white clothes raises a small brass lamp or bell toward the canopy while a second man in white stands beside him. In the foreground a woman in a white top and a white-clad figure sit before a stone-rimmed platform holding brass lamps, kalasha pots, a trident-like brass stand and offering plates. Behind them a group of seated devotees on mats, including women in green and teal saris, a woman in orange, and several children, watch the ceremony. A rough stone block sits at the base of the tree on the right. Appears to be a puja or aarti performed at a sacred tree shrine.2005-04-09February 23 20082008-02-23August 21 20112011-08-21Outdoor ceremony under a large spreading tree with many people seated on the ground in white clothes.
