Outdoor ritual yard under a corrugated metal roof on wooden posts, open to palm trees. In the centre stands a tall red-and-white sacred column hung with garlands, beside a red stepped platform. Near the front, a raised concrete slab with a pyramid-shaped canopy and a small lamp sits on a striped red-and-white base. Around the yard, many people sit cross-legged on mats in white dhotis and yellow shawls, arranged in a row with small fire pits marked on the ground. One seated figure in orange robes sits closest to the centre, and a seated figure in red sits near the platform. A pile of firewood or ash mounds sits to the right and small deity sculptures line the left edge. Smoke rises in the bright sky.2010-09-02Outdoor photo of a group yoga session on a wide concrete courtyard before a small open-sided shrine with a tin roof on wooden posts. Inside the shrine stands a deity murti with garlands and a red cloth backdrop. Around twenty people in black clothing kneel on mats, while others on the left bend forward in standing poses. A few figures in white robes stand near the shrine. Dense green trees surround the courtyard under an overcast sky.2014-09-07A square brick fire pit, built from pale whitish bricks with darker weathered tops, sits in the foreground of a dark night scene. Its hollow centre holds dim embers and small pieces of wood. Small red-orange specks dot the brick surfaces. Behind it, partly visible at the edges of the frame, are the blurred shapes of people seated on the ground, and a metal vessel rests near the upper right of the pit. The lighting is warm and low, with most of the background in shadow.2006-08-28Outdoor photo of a group of about ten people seated cross-legged in meditation on circular concrete platforms ringed with pale pebbles, on sandy ground beside white stepped structures and palm trees. Most wear white dhoti-style clothing and orange or red shawls; several in front wear yellow sleeveless vests over white. A woman in the foreground with orange shawl has her hands folded in her lap and eyes closed. Dark stone statues stand at the left edge.2010-07-10Interior of a plain hall with a corrugated metal roof and exposed steel trusses, white-washed walls and barred windows. Many children and adults in white clothes sit cross-legged in rows on the bare floor, some with orange sashes. In the centre, a man in an orange robe with shaved head sits on a white platform before a small brass puja setup with bells, a lamp and offerings, while a person in white sits facing him. At left stands a large white bull statue with a red-and-gold harness beside a tiered red-draped platform topped with a small kalasha-like finial. Several people stand near the back wall.2007-08-26September 09 20162016-09-09Outdoor temple courtyard with palm trees and a grey overcast sky. A tall wooden kalasha-topped pillar with garlands stands at the centre, beside a white raised platform holding a black stone deity murti or lingam. Smoke rises from the left. A seated figure in orange robes sits front centre facing the platform, with rows of people in white clothes and yellow shawls seated in circular patterns on the sand. Rows of dark stone sculptures stand along the left side. A white square platform with red and white striped edging sits in the foreground, with people in white seated at its right edge.2010-07-07March 06 20072007-03-06A homa fire burns in a raised, yellow-painted fire pit decorated with yellow and orange marigold flowers and white kolam lines, under a corrugated roof hung with coloured tassels. Several priests sit cross-legged behind the fire: a bare-chested man at left in orange cloth, a central priest with a pink turban, white dhoti and a large floral garland, and others in white dhotis and orange shawls, one pouring from a basket. Around them, a large seated crowd of mostly bare-chested young men in white dhotis, some wearing orange rudraksha-style mala necklaces, sits on colourful striped mats. Brass vessels, fruit and flowers sit at the right edge, and red-walled buildings and palm trees stand behind. The central figure is a priest conducting the homa rather than a clearly identifiable a person.2016-09-09August 26 20072007-08-26August 26 20072007-08-26A photograph of a temple shrine under a scaffold canopy of bamboo poles and metal frame. Two deity murtis stand on a stone platform draped with red curtains, decorated with garlands and lamps. Around a green mat and striped floor covering, about a dozen children in white clothes sit cross-legged, several raising hands with small plates or cups, performing an offering or puja. At the right, a figure in orange-saffron robes with long hair sits on a raised seat before a small table with offerings, apparently overseeing the rite. Trees and a stone wall frame the open-air setting.2007-03-06
