December 19 20032003-12-19March 29 20162016-03-29A dense crowd of mostly men in white shirts and dhotis fills an indoor hall at night. At the centre, a man with long dark hair wears a saffron-orange turban, an orange-gold shawl and a mala of beads, his palms pressed together in namaste. An older man in white with folded hands stands beside him, and many people around them lean in, some with hands raised in greeting. The scene looks like a wedding visit with a welcoming crowd.Photo 11701832 +1 copiesJanuary 02 20082008-01-02A photograph at a temple entrance with carved grey stone pillars and a doorway. At centre, a smiling man with long dark hair wears a saffron-orange robe and a large garland of white, red and yellow flowers, while two priests in orange and white clothing assist. Beside him, a priest with a shaved head and white vibhuti marks stands in an orange robe. In the foreground, a bare-chested priest with a multicoloured sash and a grey-haired priest with white markings pour or offer from a silver vessel. A uniformed police officer in khaki with a peaked cap stands to the right. Many devotees in white and orange clothing crowd around, several with folded hands, and a boy in a striped shirt is visible on the left.2010-01-08November 24 20082008-11-24Night photograph of a crowd surrounding a central figure in a maroon-red turban and rust-red robe with a long rudraksha mala draped over the shoulders. Several men in white shirts and dhotis, some with white tilak on the forehead and orange or saffron garments, press close and reach toward him while a woman in a teal sari with an orange flower in her hair is in the foreground. A dark vehicle is visible behind the group under a night sky, and a man at right holds up a phone to record. Cues for a person presence are the turban, rudraksha mala and saffron-toned robe, but the face is not visible enough to confirm identity.2016-03-29Night photograph outside a temple wall at Tiruvannamalai, with a crowd pressing around a car door. A man on the left in a saffron-orange robe and orange headwrap, with long dark swept-back hair, leans toward the open car door. Beside him a man in a red shirt and glasses holds the door frame. Behind them a sannyasi in orange with a white tripundra on his forehead and a beaded necklace stands with long hair, and a man in white shirts and a police officer in a cap stand at the right edge. Several onlookers fill the background.2008-01-02July 28 20082008-07-28Night photograph of a grey car pulled up at the entrance of a building with orange and white floral garlands strung above the doorway. A person with long dark hair and an orange sleeveless top sits in the front passenger seat, smiling and gesturing with a raised hand toward a row of men waiting outside. Around ten men in white shirts and white or cream trousers stand in a line, several with palms pressed together in greeting; one man in the foreground holds a long white garland with red and white flowers. Overhead wires and a multi-storey building with balconies form the backdrop.2006-08-10January 02 20082008-01-02
