Photo of the ornately carved white gopuram of Arunachaleshwara Temple in Tiruvannamalai, seen from below through a dark stone gateway. Several figures stand at the entrance: a man in white dress shirt and dhoti on the left, a bald man in an orange robe in the centre-left, and a long-haired man in a saffron-orange robe with a white garland at the centre-right, who appears to be holding hands with the bald man. Two more men in white and a figure in a lighter shirt are partly visible at the frame edges. Overhead, power lines cross the sky. Several men walk out of the gateway along a concrete path. Two central figures wear saffron/orange robes; the taller one has long dark hair and a central figure in saffron appears with an orange shawl, while a bare-chested man in a yellow and purple dhoti walks beside them. A man in white kurta stands at left and a woman in a maroon sari and a woman in a blue patterned sari are at the right edge. The man in the saffron robe with long dark hair is an appearance-based a person, walking with the group as a devotee and visiting dignitary.2008-07-29 +1 copiesA procession walks out of a stone temple gateway (gopuram entrance) with ornately painted sculptured tower above. In the centre, a man in a saffron-orange robe with a shaved head and a tilak walks forward gesturing with one hand, flanked by a man in a saffron robe behind him. To his right, a bare-chested man in a red shawl and red dhoti carries a decorated kalasha pot with a green coconut-style top and garland. Around them, men in white dhotis and white shirts walk, one bare-chested man holds a bunch of bananas, and a few men wear rudraksha or beaded necklaces. The stone pavement and temple architecture set the scene.2009-08-11August 06 20092009-08-06A photograph of a large white gopuram temple tower rising behind a grey curved canopy at a South Indian temple entrance. A crowd of devotees descends a broad stone staircase in front of the gate. Near the centre, a man in an orange dhoti and a garland walks with a bare-chested man in orange, and several men in white dhotis with gold borders walk barefoot. A man in a white shirt carries a blue bucket. Others wear pink and red shirts and saris. A carved shrine niche with deity figures sits at right. A blue banner with a timetable hangs near the entrance. Many devotees are visible, and a few of the men show distinctive garlands or ornaments, but no appearance cue reliably identifies a person, so the presence is uncertain.2011-09-09A photograph of a large South Indian temple gopuram with a tiered, richly painted tower covered in sculpted figures in blue, green, red and yellow. Below, a stone gateway opens into a dark passage. Several people walk out through the entrance, many in white dhotis and shirts.
