January 1st 2013January 1st 2013 +1 copiesOutdoor temple scene under a leafy tree. A man with long dark hair, a red garland of flowers, a gold chain and ochre dhoti holds a small bell in one hand and a glass vessel in the other, performing a puja before a decorated deity murti of a standing figure with golden crown and ornaments. The murti is draped in flower garlands of red, yellow, white and purple, and sits above a mound of red offerings. Behind him, devotees with folded hands stand in white and red saris and white clothes. A tall ochre-clad man in the scene is performing the ritual; he is the main subject and matches the presentation of the Swamiji (probable) cues: long swept-back hair, ornate gold necklace, rudraksha garland, and ochre clothing.2013-01-01 +1 copiesMarch 10 20132013-03-10January 1st 2013April 14 20132013-04-14Outdoor temple scene under a dense banyan tree. On the left, a deity murti of Dakshinamurthy with orange cloth and marigold garlands sits in a stone arched niche, in front of a mound of red kumkum. At centre, a man with long swept-back hair, a headband, bare chest and an orange shawl holds a flaming lamp or camphor flame toward the deity, and beside him a shaven-headed young man in orange robes and a beaded necklace holds a brass tray. Behind them, two people in white dhotis and orange saris stand with hands folded in prayer. A rangoli of flowers decorates the ground. Photographic record of a puja-style offering; the lamp flame and tray indicate aarti.2010-12-27Outdoor ritual scene beneath large spreading trees at an ashram-style site. In the left foreground, a Shiva lingam stands inside a white stone arch, draped with garlands in yellow, red and purple, and heaped with red offerings. Nearby, a flame burns on a tree trunk. Two men stand to the right: a young man in white dhoti and shawl with a long hair and rudraksha garland holds a bell and oil lamp, while a shaved-headed man in saffron-orange robes and a matching shawl stands beside him. Other devotees in white and red-bordered garments stand with hands folded, and a person in white stands at the back near the lingam. Floor kolam designs are visible in white.2010-12-21March 10 20132013-03-10Outdoors under a canopy of banyan-style trees, a standing man in saffron-orange robes holds a silver handbell and a small dish while facing a shrine. He wears a gold headband, a red-and-yellow garland and a long dark-brown hair. Behind him, a Vedic-clad assistant in saffron with a beaded garland holds an object, and several people in white dhotis and a green-bordered sari stand with hands folded in prayer. The shrine, covered in red offerings, holds an orange-clad deity murti with a red-and-yellow garland, set in a carved arch. Dark stone tiles and a floor kolam of white and yellow powder lie in front, with incense smoke rising.2010-12-27Outdoor ritual at a shaded courtyard beneath large banyan-type trees. In the foreground a young man in saffron-orange robes with a matching orange shawl and orange-and-yellow flower garlands holds a bell and stands before a small flame in a lamp. Beside him another saffron-robed man holds a lamp, and a line of devotees with folded hands stands behind them, including a woman in a white sari with green border. To the left, a black deity murti draped in saffron cloth and marigold garlands sits on a pedestal in front of a heap of red kumkum powder and an ornate stone arch. Fresh red and yellow floral rangoli decorates the ground, and dark polished stone slabs lead toward the lamp. The scene suggests an aarti or puja. Two or three figures are in the frame besides the bell-holder.2010-12-27Outdoor temple scene under large banyan trees. A figure in saffron-orange robes with a long shawl and a garland of white flowers stands at a shrine, raising a lit lamp and ringing a handbell before a deity murti decorated with garlands in red, orange and yellow. Several saffron-clad men with rudraksha malas stand to the right; one holds a brass trident and another a plate of flowers. The ground is red earth with a dark polished floor reflecting the shrine. This matches the photo of a puja at a shrine with a lamp and bell.2008-12-26 +1 copies
