A large golden murti of Mariamman, the goddess, is decorated for the Purvanga Utsavam puja. She sits under an ornate gold arch topped by a cobra hood, with a red-and-gold crown and a gold mukut. Her face is painted with red lips and a red tilak. She wears a red and gold sari with a richly embroidered blue, red and green border, layered gold and red jewelled necklaces and bangles, and holds a trident and a sword. Red roses, yellow marigolds and white jasmine garlands surround her, with green and red peacock-like ornaments on the arch. The bottom edge shows a blurred foreground figure and a white offering plate. This is a photograph of a deity murti, with no physical people clearly visible.
