Outdoor photograph of a funerary or ritual gathering on dry red earth. At centre, a bearded man with long hair wears an orange-saffron robe and stands beneath a red and gold umbrella held by attendants. Nearby, a bare-chested man in white dhoti pours liquid from a vessel onto a freshly heaped mound of soil strewn with petals, while others in white dhotis and orange robes stand around. Pink and orange umbrellas and a green-and-gold umbrella shelter the group. Behind them, women in white saris stand in rows on a striped mat, and a woman in a colourful sari and children watch from the left beside a parked silver vehicle. Trees and open sky fill the background.

Outdoors on a bare red-earth ground, a mound of earth strewn with petals and yellow flowers is the focus of a funeral rite. A shaved-headed man in white dhoti and shawl bends over it, pouring water from a brass pot, while a man in a blue checked shirt pours from a pink vessel and a small child stands nearby. Women in saffron saris and a larger group in white robes stand behind them, and a floral-patterned cloth is spread on the ground to the right. A bare-chested man with long dark hair and a rudraksha mala stands in the centre beside a man in white dhoti, with two ceremonial umbrellas (one orange, one multicoloured) held aloft above a group of saffron-robed sannyasis walking in procession. Several men in white dhotis and women in orange saris watch from behind, and a light-coloured pillared structure and trees stand in the background. A bare-chested man in white dhoti kneels at a freshly mounded earth mound, pouring water from a brass vessel onto a standing stone, with a small kalasha-style pot nearby. A bearded man in a rust-brown robe with a rudraksha mala stands at the mound with hands folded, while an orange-robed attendant holds a trident. Ornate red, orange and green umbrellas are held over the group. Behind them, rows of orange-robed sannyasis and white-clad men and women stand observing, and a small boy in colourful shirt watches. Flower petals scatter the mound. Several white-clothed elders stand at right with arms crossed. Bearded robed figure is an unverified candidate, so the identity is left unsure.2017-02-04
