Outdoors on a bare red-earth ground, a mound of earth strewn with petals and yellow flowers is the focus of a funeral rite. A shaved-headed man in white dhoti and shawl bends over it, pouring water from a brass pot, while a man in a blue checked shirt pours from a pink vessel and a small child stands nearby. Women in saffron saris and a larger group in white robes stand behind them, and a floral-patterned cloth is spread on the ground to the right. Trees and a pale sky frame the scene.
