Dusk photograph of a Karthigai Deepam scene at an outdoor temple. Two people stand at the left edge, partly cut off by the frame; one wears a dark cap-like headpiece and the other a patterned headdress and beaded necklaces, with copper-coloured garments. A tall tapering pillar with a finial rises at centre beneath a corrugated roof. At right, a large lit oil lamp or vessel burns with an orange flame atop a stone platform draped in red marigold garlands and a blue cloth. Palm fronds frame the top of the image against a pale blue evening sky.
