A photograph of a deity murti seated on a green-and-gold throne, adorned with a gold crown, red and gold garments, layered gold necklaces and heavy garlands of red, white and yellow flowers. Two priests stand on either side: the one on the left, bare-chested with a white dhoti and a green turban, and the one on the right in a purple-bordered cloth and gold-coloured headwear, both apparently attending the murti. Gold ornate arches and a green curtain form the backdrop, and an ornate gold canopy frames the scene. The statue's decorated figures on the throne sides include a smaller murti in a red crown. The setting suggests a temple ritual such as abhishekam or alankaram.2015-10-18A photograph of a temple ritual centred on a richly decorated deity murti seated on a golden throne draped with green cloth and garlands of red and white flowers. The central murti wears a large jewelled necklace, a red and gold crown and gold armour-like ornaments. Flanking figures appear to be smaller murtis in gold crowns. Two men in white dhotis with bare upper bodies and white flower garlands stand in front, one holding a gold vessel and the other a gold ceremonial object, as in an abhishekam or puja. Gold and green cushions and jewelled decorations frame the scene.2015-10-18Photograph of a ritual at a decorated altar where a silver-faced deity murti is seated in the centre, wearing a tall gold crown with red band, layered white and silver jewelled necklaces and gold arm ornaments, framed by dense garlands of red and yellow flowers. Two flanking deity figures wear red-and-gold crowns. In the foreground two bare-chested priests in white dhotis, one holding a small brass vessel, perform a ceremonial offering, one passing a gold-coloured item to the deity. A third man at left wears a purple head cloth. The setting is a green draped backdrop with gold carved ornaments, consistent with a Meenakshi-style wedding ritual.2015-10-18 +1 copiesOctober 18 20152015-10-18October 18 20152015-10-18A photograph of a temple ritual at a shrine decorated with white and yellow garlands and pink flowers. Two priests stand in front, bare-chested with white sacred marks on their arms and wearing purple and gold cloths; one holds a small silver vessel while both reach toward the central figure. A green cloth backdrop and gold framing surround the scene, with a second smaller murti with a crown visible at the right. This appears to be a temple-style abhishekam or puja offering.2015-10-18October 18 20152015-10-18Photograph of a temple wedding-style ritual before a decorated deity murti pair. Two gilded metal murtis are seated on a green-draped platform framed by garlands of red, yellow and white flowers and gold arches. The central figure wears a gold crown with a red band, a white and jewelled garment and necklaces. Three priests with bare upper bodies attend: one in a purple cloth and blue headwrap pours liquid from a small vessel, another in green embroidered cloth and a gold necklace stands between, and a third in white dhoti and purple shawl holds a coconut offered to the deities. Abhishekam or kalyanam rites are suggested by the offering and pouring.2015-10-18October 18 20152015-10-18A photograph of a Hindu temple wedding ritual honouring deities. Two shirtless priests in white dhotis stand before a gilded altar, one placing a garland over a shrine figure. The central deity murti wears a red crown, a white and gold necklace and red and white garlands, while a second murti on the right wears a gold crown, a blue-and-gold necklace and a yellow garland. A green cloth covers the platform, with brass lamps and ornate gold panels around it. This appears to be a Meenakshi Tirukalyanam-style marriage ceremony, with garland exchange and abhishekam-style decoration of the murtis. No a person is visibly present.2015-10-18October 18 20152015-10-18
