A homa or yagna fire blazes in a low square fire pit on a stone-paved courtyard at a brick building entrance. Around the fire, offerings of fruit, sweets and grains lie on banana leaves and tiered brass plates. Five men sit around the pit: at left, a bare-chested priest with a headband, rudraksha beads and a pink-and-white shawl pours from a brass vessel; beside him a bare-chested man tends an offering; at right, a man in white dhoti and yellow shawl sits with a bare-chested companion. Two men stand behind the pit in white dhotis, one bare-chested with a long rudraksha mala and the other wearing a mala and a white shawl. Bananas, apples and kalasha vessels with flowers are arranged along the edge. A sign on the wall shows prohibited photography and recording symbols.
