Many men in white shirts and white dhotis or trousers are kneeling and tending the pits, some carrying buckets or tools. Parked cars and a multi-storey white building with trees line the edge of the ground. Trees, low buildings, a utility pole and a spectators' area frame the field.2007-11-18Outdoors on a dry, reddish-brown earth field, many participants in white dhoti-style clothing sit or kneel on blue and teal mats before small brick fire pits (homa kundas) with burning flames and brass vessels beside them. Several people wear orange-bordered shawls. Their bodies are bent forward in prostration or offering. Behind them, a framed portrait stands on a low platform among trees, and a blue-roofed building and a smoky haze appear on the horizon under a pale evening sky.
