Dim interior of a temple hall with carved granite pillars rising on the right, their relief sculptures of rearing figures and mythic beasts visible. Above, a painted wooden ceiling with coloured floral and geometric panels. A tall brass pillar-lamp stands at left beside a wall plaque. Several men in white dhotis and shirts stand in a group at the lower right, one wearing a bald head and gold bracelet, others gathered near the pillars; in the centre a figure in orange-saffron robes stands near a blue metal railing, raising a hand. Devotees crowd the central passage.

A photograph inside a stone temple hall with carved dark pillars and brackets, where a crowd stands behind metal railings in a queue. Most men wear white dress shirts and white dhotis, and several women wear saris, including one in purple and one in red. A woman with light blond hair stands at left in a red top. Two large black electric pedestal fans stand among the railings, and brass oil lamps sit at right. Carved sculptural panels are set into the pillars. Overhead lights are visible. The people appear to be waiting in line for darshan.

A dense crowd fills a stone temple corridor with carved pillars and ornate ceiling brackets, lit by overhead tube lights. Most people are men, many bare-chested with white or ochre cloths, some wearing rudraksha or beaded necklaces; a few wear yellow and white clothing. Painted devotional banners hang from the pillars, and glass-covered deity shrines or offering enclosures line the far side. The image shows a packed temple procession or darshan line rather than a single identifiable ritual.

A photograph inside a stone-pillared temple corridor with carved columns and ornate brackets. A blue and white sign reads 'Tower Entrance' with Tamil text above it, and a red and yellow barrier with a Tamil sign stands at the left. Several devotees walk toward the camera; a woman in a red saree and a man in a white shirt are prominent in the centre, and others in white dhotis and mixed clothing move through the passage. A metal gate with decorative scrollwork lines the path, and dried palm fronds hang on the right. Pedestrian crowd is visible, with a figure partly seen at the right edge.

Devotees walk through a long stone colonnade inside a South Indian temple, its pillars carved with rearing lion figures. Several people in saffron and orange robes lead the group, including a figure wearing an orange garment with a black bag over the shoulder at left. Others wear white dhotis and shirts, and a woman in a pink sari and white-blouse woman appear among them. A uniformed police officer in khaki stands behind the group, and a painted red-and-gold guardian figure stands beside a green iron gate on the right. A ceiling light illuminates the corridor.

A temple corridor with grey stone pillars and a dim interior. A bearded man in an orange dhoti and white shawl walks barefoot down the central passage, flanked by a man in a green shirt. Several other people in orange and white ritual clothes, along with a woman in a light sari, follow behind. On the right, a copper-coloured ornate iron gate stands beside a dried-leaf torana hanging from a pillar. A camera operator with a shoulder camera is visible at the left edge. A yellow and red barrier sits at the right. Pillars carry carved stone sculptures of a deity murti.

Night photograph of an ornate temple gopuram-style entrance hall at Arunachaleshwara, its stone pillars lit by overhead lamps and its roof crowded with painted sculptural figures in red, green and yellow. A crowd of about twenty people stands and sits in the courtyard; several women wear white saris with coloured borders and men wear white dhotis, while one man in an orange garment and others in dark clothing stand near the pillars. A stainless steel water urn numbered 10 stands at right beside a small shelter with corrugated roof and blue shutters. No identifiable a person figure is visible.
