March 04 20202020-03-04Several men walk out through the dark stone gateway of a South Indian temple tower, its upper levels densely carved with sculpted figures and a white gopuram visible beyond. In the foreground a man in white shirt and trousers with dark-rimmed glasses carries a pink-and-white garland. To his right a figure in a flowing orange-saffron robe with a beaded necklace and long dark hair walks forward, a probable Swamiji by appearance. Behind them an older man in white dhoti and shawl carries a rudraksha mala, another man in white holds a large green-and-yellow flower garland, and a seated woman in orange sari sits at the right with a few onlookers nearby. Overcast sky and overhead wires frame the scene.2006-12-04Photo of the ornately carved white gopuram of Arunachaleshwara Temple in Tiruvannamalai, seen from below through a dark stone gateway. Several figures stand at the entrance: a man in white dress shirt and dhoti on the left, a bald man in an orange robe in the centre-left, and a long-haired man in a saffron-orange robe with a white garland at the centre-right, who appears to be holding hands with the bald man. Two more men in white and a figure in a lighter shirt are partly visible at the frame edges. Overhead, power lines cross the sky. A dark plaque is mounted on the gateway wall to the right.2006-12-04September 12 20122012-09-12March 05 20202020-03-05March 05 20202020-03-05September 12 20122012-09-12August 06 20092009-08-06August 06 20092009-08-06Kailasa Paramparagatha Kanchee Kailasa SarvajnapeethamA tall, ornately carved stone gopuram temple tower dominates the frame, its tiers covered in sculpted figures and niches with a row of finials along the top, rising in front of a pale hazy sky. Crowds of people in mostly white, cream and red-orange clothing walk and gather in the open courtyard in front of the entrance, some carrying bags. Trees with green foliage and a flowering red-orange tree frame the left and right edges, with market stalls and street lamps visible at the edges and a low wall with rounded battlement-like tops running across the scene.2008-05-04August 06 20092009-08-06
