Pongal ritual scene: a clay pot with a green cloth tied at its neck and white and red markings boils over a brick hearth with flames and sugarcane stalks standing at its sides. Behind it, saffron-robed young participants with rudraksha beads and ornate paraphernalia watch under a canopy, with decorated umbrellas and a golden ceremonial object. A cameraman in white stands among white-clad attendees. Visible people are numerous, many partially visible at the right edge.

Steam rises from the pot. Behind it, a person in white cloth and orange-robed figures stand partly out of frame, with a bangle visible on an arm at the top. The fire and pot suggest a Pongal boiling offering.2016-01-15January 15 20162016-01-15January 15 20162016-01-15A Pongal cooking ritual in an outdoor courtyard. In the foreground a clay pot of boiling milk and rice sits on a stack of bricks over a wood fire, with steam rising and a green leaf tied at its neck. Sugarcane stalks stand upright around the pot. Bowls of rice, lentils and jaggery sit on the ground at right, and kolam designs decorate the paved floor. Behind, several women in red and orange saris and a man in white dhoti and shawl stand in a row, some carrying brass pots. Some figures wear saffron garments and rudraksha malas. No individual can be confidently identified as a person from this image.2017-01-14January 15 20162016-01-15
