October 01 20072007-10-01A person in a white kurta and an orange-red shawl stands in a dim room with a corrugated metal ceiling, holding a tall brass multi-tier oil lamp (aarti lamp) with several flames burning. Strings of beads hang at the chest. The lamp is held aloft in a lit ritual gesture, with the flames as the brightest point in the frame. The person's face is in shadow and appearance is uncertain, so no identity is asserted; the figure is a devotee performing aarti in a dim hall.2007-10-01October 01 20072007-10-01September 10 20122012-09-10A photograph of a performer in an orange dhoti and orange shawl with gold border, wearing a rudraksha mala and ceremonial gold necklace, holding a tall multi-tiered brass aarti lamp with several lit oil lamps and a handbell in the other hand. White horizontal sacred marks are on the arms. Behind him a blurred crowd of spectators fills the hall, with a red banner on the wall. The performer's appearance does not clearly establish a specific identity, so the role is described as an aarti performer. The event context suggests a festival aarti ritual.2016-05-24December 15 20162016-12-15April 27 20142014-04-27September 09 20122012-09-09A man in a saffron-orange ceremonial garment and a gold bead necklace holds a tall silver multi-tiered oil lamp aarti stand with many lit flames, gazing upward in a dim hall. He has a red tilak on his forehead, wears glasses and a silver bracelet, and has white painted markings on his upper arms. The lamp stand has a curved silver handle and ornate silver base; a metal railing and blurred furnishings are behind him. The lamp is an oil lamp stand used in aarti, not a fire pit.2011-11-30A photograph of a young man in a white kurta with rolled sleeves and a red-orange shawl draped over his shoulders, wearing a rudraksha mala. He stands in a dim hall with a corrugated metal roof, holding a brass multi-tiered aarti lamp with several burning oil flames, lifting it with one hand while gazing upward. A hanging cloth banner is visible at left.2007-10-01A person in a dim hall holds up a brass multi-wick aarti lamp with several lit flames, the fire rising from the top wick. The person wears a loose white kurta with rolled sleeves and an orange-saffron shawl draped over the shoulders, with long dark hair tied back. A corrugated metal roof and dark walls surround them, and a small speaker or equipment sits at the left edge. The photo is taken from the side, with warm lamp light against the cool dark background.2007-10-01March 16 20132013-03-16
