December 11 20162016-12-11December 07 20162016-12-07Night photograph of an evening aarti at an outdoor temple setting with blurred colourful string lights in the background. Three men stand in a row. The man on the left in a white shirt and white dhoti holds a long brass torch with a flaming wick. The central man, shown in profile, wears a white dhoti and white shawl over one shoulder, with rudraksha malas around his neck and a saffron-yellow sash, and holds a brass fire torch with a cloth-wrapped handle. The man on the right in a white shirt, wearing rudraksha malas, holds a small brass vessel.2015-11-16December 12 20162016-12-12Night-time photograph of an outdoor puja at a temple. A bearded man with a vertical tilak on his forehead and a bare upper body wears a yellow shawl and a red-and-clear bead mala. He holds a silver tray with a lit multi-flame oil lamp (aarti) in both hands, with smoke rising from the flames, eyes closed in devotion. Beside him a younger man in a white dhoti and a rudraksha-style bead mala holds a microphone and speaks. A third person in orange cloth stands at the left edge. Blurred coloured fairy lights hang in the background. Visible actions are aarti being performed with a microphone for narration. Appearance-based cues for the central lamp-holder include a shawl, bead mala and ceremonial dress, but the image alone does not establish his identity.2016-12-15 +1 copiesNight outdoor ceremony with a standing priest in a dark red-brown dhoti and wrap, bare-chested, wearing a long rudraksha mala and a gold ceremonial necklace. He holds a brass bell in one hand and a small ritual vessel with a spouted lamp in the other, beside a dark wooden altar table with a lit oil lamp. Seated devotees fill the foreground in orange, white and saffron clothing, many with eyes closed or looking up. Lights and trees surround the open-air hall, with a golden deity murti and yellow banner in the background.2017-09-28 +1 copiesDecember 09 20112011-12-09January 18 20132013-01-18December 09 20112011-12-09January 28 20132013-01-28A bare-chested man with a white tilak on his forehead and arms holds a lit oil lamp or ritual flame in his right hand, with smoke rising from it. He wears rudraksha and multicoloured beaded malas around his neck, gold bangles and earrings. Behind him are blurred dark stone shrines and small lamps, and to the left a person in white cloth is partly visible. The setting suggests a ritual puja or aarti.2016-12-18A photograph of a young man performing a ritual with a brass oil lamp held in both hands, its flame burning upward with a wisp of smoke. He is bare-chested, wearing a white sacred thread, a rudraksha mala of brown beads, and white ash markings on his forehead and arms. His eyes are closed and he appears absorbed in the act. Behind him, slightly out of focus, a portrait of a smiling man in red and saffron robes with a red turban is displayed, and to the right is an ornate gold deity murti on a decorated altar with red and gold fabrics. The scene is a temple or ashram shrine setting.2017-02-01
