A priest in saffron-orange robes with a rudraksha-style beaded mala and a white forehead mark sits behind a square fire pit built of yellow-ochre bricks decorated with white, yellow and pink flowers. Smoke rises from the fire. He holds a ladle or spoon over the pit. To the left, a man in white dhoti and yellow shawl holds a brass plate of offerings, and another seated person in grey trousers and striped shirt is partly visible. Bundles of wood sticks, a brass kalasha-style vessel, a small silver pot and a brass lamp lie on the mat and on a metal tray at right.A photograph of an outdoor homa fire ritual in a garden setting. A bare-chested priest in an orange-saffron dhoti with a gold-bordered orange shawl, rudraksha mala and gold necklaces, and a tall hair knot, pours an offering from a silver vessel into a flaming fire pit lined with white decorative patterns. Two women in orange-red saffron sarees stand behind him with hands folded in prayer, and a few other people are partly visible. Silver bowls with food sit at the left of the altar, and a deity murti decorated with white flower garlands and pearl-like jewellery is at the right. Palm and banana plants and a brick wall form the background.2016-09-05September 21 20162016-09-21A photo of a fire ritual. A shaven-headed man sits cross-legged on an orange cloth, wearing an orange robe, a gold rudraksha-style necklace of beads and a white and red forehead marking, and speaks into a microphone while reaching toward a flame. Brass and silver bowls hold offerings and wood sticks sit by the fire. Seated behind him, two men in white clothes sit with folded hands, and a third man in a red and white shawl sits on a chair nearby. Flowers lie at the edge of the frame. The orange-robed man's appearance is not clearly distinctive enough to confirm identity, so he is described only by role as a ritual officiant.2012-09-09August 31 20172017-08-31A photograph of an outdoor homa fire ritual. A long-haired man in saffron-orange robes, bare-shouldered with a white tilak on his forehead, sits cross-legged on a blue cloth at the edge of a square fire pit built from white bricks. Flames rise from the pit, and marigold petals are scattered over the bricks. He leans forward to pour from a small brass vessel into a bowl. Behind him, a second man in white with dark hair holds a metal rod. A brass plate of flowers and offerings lies in front, and a large banyan tree with aerial roots stands in the background.2006-09-21December 14 20112011-12-14
