May 22 20142014-05-22A photograph taken from a stone stairway above the Ganges riverfront in Varanasi, looking down toward the water. In the foreground, two men stand with their backs to the camera: the figure on the left is bare-chested with a shaved head and rudraksha beads and gold-toned bangles, and the figure on the right wears an orange-saffron shawl over the shoulder with long, wavy dark hair and rudraksha malas. Beside them is a tall wooden pole on a red-and-cream striped stone base. Below, boats lie along the misty river, people walk and bathe on the ghat steps, and a cameraman in a red top films the scene at right. The image is from a Nithyanandapedia archive page dated February 13, 2013.2013-02-13A crowded riverside ghat in Varanasi on the Ganges under hazy morning light.
