Before him is a white and orange-clad figure in a seated pose with an orange turban and rudraksha mala, which is a white statue or murti, not a living person, arranged on a white cloth with a black embroidered cushion. Behind them is a large deity murti adorned with gold jewellery and garlands of yellow and pink flowers, against a blue cloth and gold-framed backdrop. Brass bowls with flowers and offerings sit in the foreground, consistent with puja or aarti at a temple shrine.2008-02-23April 17 20162016-04-17August 08 20112011-08-08Photograph of a padapuja ceremony. A seated man in an ochre-orange robe and a long garland of pink, yellow and white flowers sits on an ornate gold-and-brown throne, holding a silver rod, with a white tilak on his forehead and rudraksha beads around his neck and arms. A bald man in a white dhoti and orange-bordered shawl kneels before him, washing or offering to his bare feet, which rest on a silver tray of flowers and petals. Silver puja plates with oil lamps and offerings sit in the lower right corner. The seated figure has distinctive ochre robes, a gold pendant and a garland, which are probable cues for a person, while the kneeling devotee is in white.2012-12-04 +2 copiesA photograph of a temple puja setting. A bare-chested priest in white dhoti and a gold-beaded necklace sits cross-legged on a dark platform, eyes closed, chanting, while his hands rest over brass and steel vessels, a silver bowl, a small glass and an oil lamp. Beside him stands a white statue of a sage with a saffron-orange robe, a saffron turban, a rudraksha mala and a raised palm. Behind them hang a garland of yellow and orange marigolds, an embroidered silver-and-black ornamental backdrop and a saffron cloth. The scene suggests a padapuja offering ritual.2011-01-17A man with long dark hair, wearing an orange saffron robe, rudraksha mala and a red-and-yellow tilak, sits on an ornate gold throne with red cushions, hands pressed together in namaskar with eyes closed. Behind him stand gold-clad deity murtis garlanded with yellow and purple flowers, with brass lamps and red drapes around them. In front, several shaven-headed men in white dhotis with red borders and one woman in a yellow sari sit on red mats, some holding plates of fruit, flowers and offerings, while others perform padapuja. A deity murti with a trident and a small portrait are visible at the sides. The setting is a temple-style shrine.2010-09-08Photo of a temple ritual in a gilded shrine. In the left foreground a shaved-headed priest in white dhoti and shawl, bare-chested with a gold chain, sits and pours liquid from a silver vessel toward a central figure. The central figure is a seated statue in saffron-orange robes, an orange turban, a beaded necklace and a garland of yellow and red flowers. Behind it stand a tall golden deity murti with a red cloth backdrop, a yellow and red flower garland hung with large yellow beads, and a white draped cloth on the right.
