A large fire blazes over a low altar or fire pit in the foreground, with sparks flying upward. Two shirtless male priests sit behind the flames in the background, one with a sacred mark on his forehead and white-beaded necklaces, the other with a beaded garland and a cloth draped over his shoulder. Their faces are blurred by the fire's glare. On the left edge, a garland of white and red flowers hangs near the frame, and at the right edge a red-and-pink textile is partly visible. The scene suggests a homa or yagna fire ritual in progress.2016-03-06A photograph of a homa fire pit with large orange flames rising from burning logs and sticks. Behind the fire, two seated priests are visible: the figure on the left wears saffron/orange robes and a rudraksha mala, and the figure on the right wears white ritual clothing with a yellow-trimmed dhoti, a long rudraksha mala and a red-beaded wrist mala. Brass or silver vessels sit near the left priest.2013-10-15A photograph of a homa fire pit built from stacked brick with a flame rising tall and smoke drifting upward. The pit surface is decorated with coloured rangoli powder in red, white and blue, and a metal bowl sits beside the flames. In the background a shirtless person sits in soft focus, partly obscured by smoke, with a steel plate of offerings and yellow marigold garlands at the right edge. The setting is dim.2017-09-27Close view of a homa fire burning in a brick-lined fire pit at night, with flames rising over scattered flower petals and marigold-like garlands. A brass bowl with a decorated rim sits at the right edge of the pit. Two people are partly visible: on the left a bare-chested priest in white dhoti with long gold-bead necklaces seated behind the fire, and on the right a person in white dhoti with a metal bangle, reaching toward the fire with an offering. A red cloth mat lies in the background, and a sacred thread is visible around the pit.2018-01-06November 28 20152015-11-28 +1 copiesAugust 25 20172017-08-25A photograph of a fire ritual at night. A bare-chested priest in white dhoti sits cross-legged before a large flame rising from a fire pit built of wooden blocks, offering into the fire with a small vessel in his hand. A second figure in the foreground, wearing a yellow-green cloth draped over the shoulder, sits with back to the camera facing the fire. Brass vessels, a kalasha-style pot, and baskets of yellow marigold garlands are arranged around the fire, along with red flower offerings on the wooden blocks and a small oil lamp at the lower left.
