December 12 20162016-12-12A large crowd of devotees stands and kneels in dim, night-time open-air setting, many with palms pressed together in namaskar. Women in saris of orange, gold, yellow, pink and blue dominate, several wearing red sashes with name badges and orange-red garlands; a few white-clad participants also appear. A tall ornate brass lamp stand or pillar rises in the background. Some people are close to the camera in the foreground, and several kneel with flower garlands at their feet. The scene suggests a devotional gathering during an evening ritual.2016-10-10Night-time outdoor ritual gathering with a large crowd standing and seated with hands folded in namaste. In the centre, a tall ornate brass lamp stand or kalasha-style post rises before a dark background, with a strand of leafy green garland hung across the top. Foreground: several women seated on raised platforms in red, orange and gold saris with jasmine-flower garlands in their hair, seen from behind. Behind them, a man in a white shirt with a red shawl and a bearded man in an orange-and-white garment stand near the centre, while men bare-chested in white dhotis with red sashes and rudraksha malas stand to the right. Smoke drifts through the left side of the frame.2016-10-10December 12 20162016-12-12Wide night view inside a open-sided pavilion with a corrugated roof, strings of multicoloured fairy lights overhead, of a large crowd of mostly white-clad devotees, many bare-chested men in white dhotis and women in white saris, pressed around a ritual area. In the centre a tiered, multicoloured ceremonial platform with carved lion figures holds a lit fire pit with bright flames, a ritual fire. Nearby stands a golden palanquin-like canopy with a striped fringed top and a golden seat, plus a decorated standing deity murti and garlands. A large colourful portrait banner hangs on the upper right wall. Several people in orange and red clothing stand near the fire.2017-02-21Evening photo of a Navaratri celebration at a covered open-air shrine. A lit golden-arched deity murti is decorated with garlands and fairy lights, framed by pillars. Devotees in white dhotis and saris with orange and gold borders, plus a woman in a pink sari, move around the shrine on a stone floor. A man in a white striped shirt and lanyard stands in the foreground beside a small boy, and brass vessels sit on a low table. Some devotees hold trays or offerings near the murti.2008-10-03October 10 20162016-10-10November 25 20152015-11-25December 12 20162016-12-12December 12 20162016-12-12Night photograph of a crowd of devotees gathered around a large copper kalasha-style vessel topped with white cloth and feathers, decorated with yellow and orange flower garlands, set on a white platform. Many people in white clothes, several women in saris with green, gold and maroon borders, some with folded hands in prayer. Behind them, white-covered tents with red and orange bunting and a lit altar area with figures are visible; no clearly identifiable individual is distinguished as a person in this view.2006-12-30A night-time outdoor puja at a temple courtyard lit by oil lamps. Many seated devotees, mostly women in saffron, orange, pink, blue and green saris, face a central stage. On the right, a deity murti with a crown and garlands sits on a decorated throne, with a large ornate figure of a goddess behind it. Standing figures in saffron and orange clothing, some bare-chested, stand near the stage and lamps. On the left, a large dark statue wrapped in a golden cloth and a garland sits on a raised platform. Small brass and clay lamps light the ground in front of the crowd.2016-10-29
