April 17 20172017-04-17April 17 20172017-04-17Two men sit cross-legged on a cloth-covered floor for a ritual at an outdoor pavilion with red pillars. The man on the right, bare-chested with a white vibhuti line on his forehead, a rudraksha mala and a saffron-orange dhoti over white cloth, holds a small brass vessel and a spoon while pouring liquid over offerings. The man on the left, also bare-chested with a white dhoti, wears a pink and white flower garland and a gold-toned armband, and holds his hands out palm-up toward the offerings. Between them are plates of bananas, marigold-like flowers, rice and coconuts decorated with white flowers, consistent with an abhishekam or naming-ceremony puja. A large white ceremonial umbrella and a gilded carved frame stand behind them.2017-04-17April 23 20172017-04-23Ritual homa scene in a red-walled hall with several priests in white dhotis and shawls, adorned with yellow and orange garland necklaces. In the foreground two young men sit cross-legged on striped mats; the one on the right wears a shawl over his shoulder and a beaded bracelet. Before them a square white cloth is decorated with pink and yellow flower petals, red and yellow marigold garlands, apples, bananas and oranges, and a small brass bowl. To the right a fire pit blazes with wood, with cow-dung cakes and offerings, marking a fire ritual. More priests in white sit beside other fire pits in the background, one tending a flame.2016-04-10February 27 20162016-02-27Photograph of a seated ritual gathering. A figure in an orange saffron robe with long dark hair and a white forehead mark sits on a patterned mat, smiling and holding a brass tray of offerings, while wearing a thick garland of red and yellow marigolds. Facing them, a bare-chested man in orange cloth and a rudraksha-style necklace sits with palms pressed together in namaskar. Two other men in white ritual dhotis and orange cloth sit nearby, and several standing men in white shirts and dhotis, some with orange shawls, watch with hands folded. The setting appears to be a temple-side or outdoor devotional gathering.2008-08-02Outdoor ritual at a temple-style courtyard with red pillars and a golden ornamental arch behind. Two men sit on a striped mat beside a spread of offerings: coconuts with white flower-decorated tops, bananas, pink and white flower heaps, and a brass plate. The man on the left, bare-chested in white dhoti, wears a long pink and white flower garland and a red bindi, and holds a small wrapped offering. The man on the right, bare-chested with a sacred thread and rudraksha mala, wears an orange and red shawl over a white dhoti, a tilak on his forehead and a hair knot, and pours or offers from a small brass vessel with a spoon. A third person's shoulder is visible at the far left edge. This appears to be a rudra abhishekam-style puja with coconuts and flowers.2017-04-17April 16 20172017-04-16A homa fire burns on a raised platform of yellow-brown blocks decorated with coloured rangoli-style patterns of pink, green and blue flowers. Behind the fire, a man in a saffron-orange wrap and white dhoti sits cross-legged with a rudraksha-style bead necklace and a sacred ash mark on his forehead, facing the fire pit with hands joined. Across the fire, a bare-chested priest in a green head cloth and gold bead necklaces kneels and feeds offerings into the flames. A man in a white shirt and white dhoti leans in from the left to place items on a low table covered with banana leaves, fruit, marigolds and small decorated kalasha-style pots wrapped in white cloth. Red walls and a pot of ritual materials complete the scene.2016-03-05 +1 copiesJuly 11 20132013-07-11January 03 20152015-01-03
