September 15 20162016-09-15November 20 20062006-11-20Outdoor ritual at a concrete-walled construction pit with a sunken rectangular foundation, sand heaps and a parked silver car behind. A standing man with long dark hair and an orange shawl over bare shoulders holds a bell and a small flaming lamp. Seated figures in white clothes and orange shawls, and a seated man in white with an orange shawl holding a plate of flowers, sit on a mat before brass oil lamps, a silver pot, marigold petals, coconuts and a green cloth-covered object. Two ornate umbrellas with red, gold and black embroidery shade the scene, and a white canopy with red fringe stands behind.2006-11-20November 20 20062006-11-20September 15 20162016-09-15Outdoor ritual on bare earth beside a grey block wall at a construction site. A golden throne with red cushions sits under a multicoloured fringed canopy. A figure seated on the throne, in orange robes with rudraksha beads, presses palms together. Two priests in orange kneel on a patterned mat before a small ritual setup with a plate, bowls, a flower arrangement and a basket. Standing devotees in white dhotis, a green sari and white shirts watch with hands folded. Mounded earth and a freshly dug trench fill the foreground.2016-09-15Outdoor photograph of a ritual at an unfinished construction site, with a raised concrete-and-stone-walled sanctum foundation in the foreground. A figure in long dark-hair and orange robes stands at left holding a lit oil lamp (aarti) aloft. Seated devotees in white and orange clothing sit on mats behind a brass plate of flowers and offerings, with coconuts and marigold petals scattered on the concrete. Two ornate umbrellas with red, orange and gold embroidery stand nearby, a green cloth-draped object and brass lamp stand sit in the centre, and piles of sand and stone surround the area under a cloudy sky with trees.2006-11-20Outdoor photograph of a stone-lined square pit with a concrete rim at a construction site, with piles of cut grey stone and palm trees behind. On the right edge, a figure in long flowing orange robes with long dark hair stands with palms pressed together in prayer, beside a person in white ritual clothing. Yellow flower petals and marigolds lie on the concrete rim, and a small brass lamp stand is visible near the white-clad figure.2006-11-20September 15 20162016-09-15A ceremonial groundbreaking or bhoomi puja at an open dirt site in front of a grey block wall. In the foreground, a bare-footed man with long matted dreadlocks and white body markings, wearing an orange dhoti and beaded bangles, pours water from a brass vessel into a freshly dug pit. Beside him, a kneeling man in an orange garment and ornate gold-beaded headdress tends the offerings. Behind, a seated bearded man in a rust-orange robe sits on a golden ornate throne with red cushions under a multicoloured canopy; he is presumably the honoured figure, with his appearance and clothing alone not enough for identification. Nearby stand a row of orange-robed sadhus and several men in white shirts and dhotis. Ritual items include plates of flowers, fruit, a basket, and a folded striped cloth mat. Stacked grey bricks lie to the right.2016-09-15November 20 20062006-11-20Outdoor ground-breaking style ritual at a construction site beside a red and white striped wall and palm trees. A bare-footed figure in saffron-orange dhoti and matching red-orange top pours water from a brass vessel over a pit, with water flowing onto the earth. Beside them a man in white dhoti and shirt kneels and bends over, and a second man in white stands nearby. On a white-draped table in front stand a brass pot, plates of fruit, flowers, a lamp, a bell, a small bowl of vermilion and a plate of rose petals, with a decorated garland at the left edge. The setting suggests a bhoomi puja ritual.2008-08-27 +1 copies
