In the foreground, a man in an orange dhoti and an orange upper cloth with a red border walks away from the camera, carrying a small orange cloth. Several other people in orange robes and white dhotis stand and move around a paved area. At the right, a standing priest in orange garments and a beaded necklace holds a plate near a purple-draped altar at the base of the tree. A dark stone platform and a black and white snake-patterned sculpture lie on the ground, with flower petals and a garland nearby. A tall golden trident-like staff is visible at left.A photograph of an outdoor ritual beneath a large banyan tree with hanging aerial roots. In the centre, a man in a saffron-orange dhoti and shawl, bare-chested, stands with palms pressed together and a white and yellow flower garland around his neck. Around him, several men in white dhotis and orange shawls carry offering trays and a white vessel. On the right, a dark stone deity murti with a white cloth draped over it and a yellow and red flower garland stands on a plinth scattered with red petals. A photographer stands near the murti, and a red-earth path runs through the scene.2006-12-29Outdoor photo beneath a large banyan tree with hanging aerial roots. At center, a dark stone deity murti seated on a black base is draped in orange cloth and garlanded with marigolds. In front, a large mound of orange-red sindoor-coated stones or lingams is set in a black snake-shaped border with a black serpent head. Four people stand at left in front of the shrine: a bare-chested man in an orange dhoti and shawl with a rudraksha mala, two men in white dhotis with folded hands, and a woman in a white sari with a yellow border touching her forehead in prayer. A fifth person in an orange cloth stands at the right with folded hands. White pillars and a red-framed stand stand at the side. The scene reads as a shrine worship and puja at a tree-shaded temple site.2010-10-28November 20 20062006-11-20Outdoor ritual beneath a large banyan tree with dense aerial roots.
