A night procession of ascetic devotees walks barefoot along a dark road at the Kumbha Mela, lit by a distant orange lamp. Leading figures wear white dhotis and white shawls with red and orange cloth, and many have white-painted faces. The foremost man, in front, carries a tall wooden staff with a dark pennant, wears a white shawl and rudraksha-style beads, and has a white-painted face and a white badge reading Nithyananda Dhyanapeetham. Behind him, bare-chested men wear red and white dhotis, and a man at left wears an orange turban and orange garment. Many red flags and a large saffron banner with a red and blue emblem are carried high. Some onlookers in dark jackets stand at the right edge.
