Night fire ritual outdoors under a tree branch canopy. A figure in a saffron-orange robe and orange turban, with a rudraksha mala and bare feet, stands at right holding a brass aarti plate with a lit lamp in one hand and a brass handbell in the other. Several men in white ritual clothes stand and sit around a small open fire pit with brass vessels, a bowl of flower petals and a steel plate of offerings. A woman in a white sari at right holds white cloth or cotton bundles. Some men sit with palms pressed together in prayer, and a woman in white sits on the left. A figure in saffron-orange robes and an orange turban sits on a cushioned seat at left, with white sandalwood markings on the arms, holding a ladle and facing the fire; a microphone stands beside him. Seated in white ritual clothes, devotees fold their hands in prayer and watch, while a man in white holds a brass vessel with a burning flame. Brass pots and a kalasha sit near the fire, and a framed portrait hangs on the wall above lattice windows. Whether the saffron-robed priest is a person cannot be determined from appearance alone, so the identity is left uncertain.2004-07-02July 02 20042004-07-02 +1 copiesNight outdoor ritual under a large spreading tree with thick low branches.
