A man in saffron-orange robes and an orange turban, with rudraksha beads around his neck, sits cross-legged on a low seat, holding a brass bell in one hand and a flame in a small lamp in the other. Around him, devotees in white clothes sit with palms pressed together in prayer. A steel bowl of flower petals and a bowl of yellow turmeric water sit near the fire pit. A bald older man in white in the lower right foreground also folds his hands in prayer.2003-03-01A homa ritual in an indoor hall with a brick fire pit in the foreground, flames rising from it. A figure in saffron-orange robes and an orange turban sits on a cushioned seat at left, with white sandalwood markings on the arms, holding a ladle and facing the fire; a microphone stands beside him. Seated in white ritual clothes, devotees fold their hands in prayer and watch, while a man in white holds a brass vessel with a burning flame. Brass pots and a kalasha sit near the fire, and a framed portrait hangs on the wall above lattice windows. Whether the saffron-robed priest is a person cannot be determined from appearance alone, so the identity is left uncertain.2004-07-02Photo 11734138 +1 copiesNight outdoor ritual beside a brick fire pit with a bright flame. A standing figure in an orange saffron robe and matching orange head wrap holds up a brass lamp with a flame and a bell in the other hand, offering it toward the fire. He wears a long rudraksha-style mala around his neck. Seated devotees in white clothes sit on the sand, many with palms pressed together in namaskar. Brass vessels, a copper pot, a bowl of flowers and a plate of offerings rest near the fire. A bare-chested or white-clad attendant bends at right, and a woman in white with folded hands kneels at lower right.
