November 11 20132013-11-11A photograph inside a dim stone-walled shrine. A man in a red and yellow garment with a bare upper body and a sacred thread-like neck beaded necklace holds a brass bell over a brass oil lamp with a flame, reaching toward a black stone deity murti decorated with yellow marigolds and red flowers. Beside him, a bare-shouldered devotee with a red and white flower garland, hands pressed together in anjali, stands with eyes lowered in prayer. Gold bangles adorn the wrists. The scene suggests a puja or aarti at the shrine.2013-11-11November 11 20132013-11-11A photograph inside a dark granite-walled shrine. A devotee with hands folded in namaskar stands beside a woman in a red floral garland and gold necklace, who reaches toward a metal tray. An ornate brass oil lamp burns beside a black Shivalinga decorated with yellow marigold and white flower garlands and red blossoms. A partially visible person with white hair is at the lower right. The scene shows puja offerings at a Shiva shrine. Visible people are three.2013-11-11November 11 20132013-11-11November 11 20132013-11-11A photograph inside a temple shrine. An elderly man with a shaved head, bare-chested, wears an orange-red dhoti with gold borders, a beaded rudraksha mala and gold armlets, and holds a small vessel while offering to a black deity murti dressed in white and orange cloth with a white jasmine garland and pink flowers. Gold ornate shrine arch surrounds it, with a brass oil lamp burning at right. A younger man in white dhoti with gold border stands with folded hands in a respectful pose. Appearance-based cues on the elder are insufficient to confirm identity, so the role is described as a priest performing puja.2012-05-13June 05 20122012-06-05A photo inside a temple shrine with dark stone walls. On the left, a bare-chested man with long dreadlocks and a white and red forehead mark wears a thick garland of yellow and red flowers and holds a lit oil lamp toward a dark stone deity murti with multiple faces and raised arms. Behind him, a bald priest with a tilak and gold pendant and a second man with tilak stand in white dhotis. A yellow cloth is draped over part of the deity. Visible text in the corner reads a copyright credit.2018-03-05A photograph inside a temple shrine lit by a flame. In the centre a deity murti with a gold face and crown sits on a throne-like seat, framed by a rainbow-coloured garland arch of green, pink, white and purple flowers, with flanking figures and a golden kalasha-like base. A devotee in a rust-brown dhoti and shawl with a long ceremonial garland of red, yellow and white flowers, and a gold-and-bead bracelet, stands with his hands joined in prayer, wearing a maroon turban with a silver medallion. Beside him a younger attendant with long hair and bare torso holds a lit oil lamp toward the murti. Brass lamps, bananas and a bundle of straw sit on the stone plinth. Two people in the scene; the central figure's appearance is ambiguous, so identity remains uncertain.2016-12-12April 29 20182018-04-29 +1 copiesMarch 16 20152015-03-16
