A night-time outdoor ritual at a stone shrine. A bald, bare-chested man with a sandalwood mark on his forehead and a rudraksha mala around his neck stands at right, holding a brass aarti lamp with a large flame in his right hand. He wears an orange and yellow shawl over his shoulder and small earrings and bangles. Before him stand grey stone deity murti figures draped with garlands of yellow and red flowers, set against dark foliage with strung fairy lights. The man is performing aarti, a lamp offering, to the murtis.2015-07-31A photograph of a shaved-headed man in saffron-orange robes holding a brass multi-wick oil lamp in one hand and a small bell in the other, with flames rising from the lamp. He wears gold beaded necklaces and a gold pendant, with a light vertical tilak on his forehead. Smoke drifts across the left side, and green mango-style leaves hang overhead. The page indicates this is a Chandi Homa event, but the figure's appearance is a shaved-head priest in saffron with gold beads, lacking the long hair or crown cues needed to confirm the person named on the page, so the identity is uncertain.2009-09-25A man in a saffron-orange ritual garment performs an aarti with a silver lamp holding several burning wicks, the flames glowing in front of him. He is bare-chested with a sheer orange shawl draped over one shoulder, wearing long rudraksha malas across the chest, bangles and rudraksha bands on his arms, and gold-rimmed glasses, and his head is shaved. Behind him stand a red and gold ornate throne and a figure in red and white robes beside flower garlands, in a warm-lit temple-like room. Appearance-based candidate for a person: his saffron clothing, extensive rudraksha malas and ceremonial adornments are the cues, and he is the one performing the aarti.2015-04-30September 26 20092009-09-26A photograph of a shaved-headed priest in a saffron-orange robe with a red border performing an evening aarti at night. He holds a brass aarti lamp with a bright flame raised in his right hand and a brass bell in his left, and wears a gold necklace and a rudraksha-style chain with a pendant, with a white vibhuti mark on his forehead. Dried palm fronds and green leaves hang overhead beneath a decorated canopy, and smoke drifts at left. Several seated people in yellow garments are visible at the lower edge, and a man in white stands behind him. The setting looks like an outdoor homa or puja area.2009-09-26A photograph of a shaved-headed priest in saffron-orange robes standing at night beside a brass lamp with a flame and a handheld brass bell. He wears a gold necklace with a pendant and a red wristband, and rudraksha-like beads are not clearly visible. Behind him hang green leaves tied to a rope under an orange and green canopy, with smoke rising in the air. The priest is speaking or chanting. A bright fluorescent light and a bronze vessel with yellow flowers sit at the right edge.2009-09-26April 30 20152015-04-30A shaved-headed man in rust-orange sannyasi robes with a gold-bordered dhoti and a long rudraksha mala draped across his shoulders stands outdoors holding a tiered brass aarti lamp with several lit oil lamps. Behind him a large black stone deity murti stands among trees beside a red building, with white cloth draped at its base. He holds a small brass bell in one hand and wears gold bangles and a wristwatch.2013-09-16July 11 20122012-07-11December 02 20142014-12-02A photograph of a shaved-headed man in an orange-saffron robe with a darker red-maroon border stands at night holding a brass multi-wick aarti lamp with flames rising from several wicks, and a brass bell in his other hand. He wears a long gold-toned beaded necklace and a white horizontal forehead mark with a red dot. Leaves hang above and a leafy plant stands behind him against a dark background. The scene suggests a night aarti performed in the open. The man is a priest or sannyasi performing the aarti; appearance is a shaved head in saffron with no long hair, crown or rudraksha malas, so his identity is uncertain.2009-09-27October 01 20112011-10-01
