Photograph of a homa fire ritual in an indoor hall during the Sanyas Dheeksha Mahotsav. A standing figure in a bright orange robe and matching orange turban, with long dark hair, holds a ceremonial rod and gestures toward a blazing fire pit at lower left, with a brass vessel beside it. Around him stand people in white ritual clothes, some holding garlands and a staff, and a seated woman in a white sari with a cream shawl and red-trimmed cloth sits near the flames. Rows of seated devotees in white, cream and blue fill the background, with one woman in blue with palms pressed together. A framed deity image hangs on the upper left wall beside a lattice window. Multiple people are visible.2004-07-02A photograph of a homa fire ritual in a hall with a lattice-screened wall and a framed portrait high on the left wall. A bright fire pit burns in the foreground beside a brass vessel, where people sit in white and orange clothes. A figure in a saffron-orange robe and matching turban, with long dark hair, stands at the fire holding a tall bamboo staff; the figure matches the Swamiji candidate in appearance (saffron clothing, long hair, turban), so this is a probable identification. Behind them, rows of devotees in white garments sit or stand, some with hands folded, and a man in white holds a small basket. A camera on a tripod is visible at left.2004-07-02September 26 20092009-09-26Photograph of an indoor ceremony at night in a plain room with pink and cream walls and barred windows. A seated figure in orange robes, an orange turban and a rudraksha mala sits on a white-covered bed or platform before a small oil lamp on the floor. Standing men in white and orange garments raise their hands in devotion and one points toward the seated figure. Seated devotees in the foreground face the platform, and a cameraman with equipment films at right beside a covered body draped in red and gold cloth. Ritual staffs with brass tops stand in the room. The seated figure in orange with a turban and mala has appearance cues that match the a person profile, presiding over the final ceremony of a deceased relative.2005-11-14Dimly lit indoor ceremony in a whitewashed room with a pillar dividing the frame. A man in a saffron robe on the left raises an arm toward a lit torch, while a man in white dhoti and shirt stands with palms joined beside him. A seated figure in an orange robe and orange head wrap sits on a white-covered platform, with a small flame burning in front. Other saffron-clad attendants sit nearby, and a long ceremonial staff stands upright. Dense crowd of seated devotees in silhouette fills the foreground. On the right, a floral garland hangs on a framed portrait, and a larger framed picture hangs on the wall above a doorway.2005-11-14February 24 20072007-02-24July 02 20042004-07-02December 23 20062006-12-23February 24 20072007-02-24Night-time photo inside a hall during a final rite.
