A hand holding a thin modelling tool carves fine details into a grey clay sculpture of a face, shaping the brow, eye, nose and mouth of a head with a flat ear. Behind the sculpture, dry wooden poles and woven bamboo matting form a roof with a warm glow of light. The work appears to be a clay murti in progress in a sacred arts workshop.2009-12-17Making Of Sacred Arts UniversityClose-up photo of a craftsman's hand painting red-brown pigment with a thin brush onto a carved pale grey stone relief. The relief shows a stylised carved face or figure with a spiral and scroll-like patterned motif at its base, and the stone surface is dusty and granular. The hand is visible at the upper right, with bare skin and a dark cloth edge. No deity worship or ritual scene is visible; the image shows stone carving and finishing work in progress.November 22 20092009-11-22December 20 20092009-12-20December 21 20092009-12-21A photograph of a large grey plaster or clay deity figure lying on a concrete floor during fabrication. The sculpture shows a multi-armed deity with an ornate crown, a broad torso with chest ornaments and a sash, and raised hands holding objects. Its surface is pale and dusty, and a section of the frame is exposed beneath. Behind it, a man in a checked lungi crouches and works with a power tool. No visible person is posed for the camera; the only human figure is the worker at the back. The scene is an unfinished statue being made in a workshop.May 18 20142014-05-18A photograph in a workshop filled with carved grey stone sculptures. A man in saffron-orange robes and a matching orange turban, with long dark hair and a long rudraksha mala, extends his right hand toward a stone deity murti, pointing at a carved figure. Beside the statue, another man in a white shirt and white dhoti kneels and touches the stone with his hand, while a man in a pink shirt and others stand in the background among more unfinished statues. Ornate carved headdresses and jewellery decorate the sculptures. A single bulb hangs above and a wall is painted teal.2004-12-31December 19 20062006-12-19Close-up photograph of a dark grey stone deity murti with a tall ornate crown carved with patterned tiers, a broad forehead and a serene carved face with a tilak mark. White residue and chalky patches cling to the stone around the head and shoulders. A man in a cream short-sleeved polo shirt and a red thread on his wrist scrubs or cleans the statue's side with a dark cloth or brush. Green foliage and a palm frond stand in the background.2011-09-20A barefoot craftsman in a white sleeveless undershirt and blue-and-white checked lungi leans over a block of pale white stone, carving an ornate scrolled and pillared architectural element with a small chisel. A red-and-blue metal container and a metal tool lie on the dusty floor. Behind him, in dim light beneath a thatched roof, a large white sculpture of a figure with multiple arms is partly visible.
