Outdoor cremation pyre on red earth with a large plume of smoke rising to the right. A man in a white dhoti and shirt bends to place an offering near the base of the wood stack, while another man in white stands beside him and a woman in an orange sari and a man in white stand nearby. Yellow flower petals lie at the foot of the pyre. Behind them, a row of people in white sit on grass and mats, a white van and cars are parked, and a green hill rises in the background under a pale sky. Several figures in white are seated or kneeling in the distance.

Outdoor cremation pyre on bare red earth at a rural open ground with parked white vans and a hillside behind. Several men in white dhotis and white shirts tend a wood pyre of logs and bricks, with smoke rising heavily to the right; a body wrapped in white cloth lies atop the pyre. A woman in an orange sari stands at the back of the pyre with hands folded. Behind them a seated crowd in white and light clothing watches under a small striped canopy at left, and marigold petals lie at the base of the pyre.

Outdoor cremation on open red earth at KAILASA in Tiruvannamalai. A large pyre of logs stacked on brick platforms burns, sending up thick smoke. In the foreground a man in white shirt and white dhoti bends forward, using a long pole to tend the fire, and yellow flower petals are scattered on the ground. Behind the pyre, a man in a white kurta holds a small white packet, and a crowd of mourners in white and pastel saris, shirts and dhotis stands on grass with a hill and parked vehicles in the distance. No identifiable a person figure is visible; the scene shows mourners and attendants at the final rites.
