A photograph of an evening puja at a temple shrine. A man in a white shirt and white dhoti stands at left, bent forward and holding a brass plate of flowers and an oil lamp toward the altar. Beside him, a person in saffron-orange robes with a long rudraksha mala stands with hands folded in front of the body, head bowed. Behind them, a golden deity murti is draped in garlands of marigold and red flowers, with tall brass oil lamps (deepas) lined along the stone altar. Carved stone pillars frame the shrine, and an orange floor mat runs across the foreground.2010-07-07Photo 11728710 +2 copiesPhoto inside a temple shrine. A tall brass lamp stands in the foreground with a red flower tied near its top. Two men in white ritual dress bend toward it, one with hands extended over the flame; one wears a white shirt and dhoti, the other is in a yellow-and-white shawl with tilak. Beside them stands a figure in a flowing orange robe with a rudraksha mala, hands clasped in front, appearing as a person sannyasi figure, with long swept-back hair. Behind the brass lamps and kalasha-style vessels, a deity murti is dressed in magenta and garlanded with marigolds and white flowers, with a gilded canopy above.2010-06-18April 29 20192019-04-29A photograph inside a temple shrine lit by brass oil lamps. On the left a man in a white striped shirt and white dhoti bends forward, lighting a brass oil lamp with a flame on a stone ledge. On the right a figure with long dark hair and an orange robe stands with palms pressed together in prayer. Behind them an ornate gold-trimmed shrine holds a small white and orange deity murti draped in orange cloth, with red and yellow flower garlands hanging above it. Stone carvings and a red wall frame the scene, with several brass lamps and kalasha-style vessels nearby. The orange-robed figure has long, swept-back hair and orange clothing, but the appearance is not conclusive, so the candidate is marked unsure.2010-07-07June 18 20102010-06-18Night ritual scene at a temple-style hall with a gilded deity murti adorned with colourful garlands, seated on a silver palanquin-like base. Three priests stand near a blue-draped altar: a man in white dhoti with a grey-haired head and bare chest stands with palms pressed together in prayer, while a younger priest in orange dhoti holds a bell and ritual lamp, and another in orange stands behind. Gilded lion-figure pillars and ornate golden carvings frame the scene, with string lights overhead and seated devotees along the right edge.2017-01-08A photograph inside a temple hall during a ritual. On the left, a bare-chested priest in white dhoti holds a lit oil lamp toward a silver-and-gold palanquin draped with garlands of pink and white flowers and red roses. Standing in a row to the right are several men in saffron-orange robes with gold borders; the tallest in the centre wears a crown-like headband and a flower garland, and the man on the right has a long beard, rudraksha beads and a gold-bordered orange wrap. A watch-wearing man in white stands behind them. Ornate red and gold canopy fabric hangs overhead.2012-06-05A photograph inside a temple shrine. An elderly man with a shaved head, bare-chested, wears an orange-red dhoti with gold borders, a beaded rudraksha mala and gold armlets, and holds a small vessel while offering to a black deity murti dressed in white and orange cloth with a white jasmine garland and pink flowers. Gold ornate shrine arch surrounds it, with a brass oil lamp burning at right. A younger man in white dhoti with gold border stands with folded hands in a respectful pose. Appearance-based cues on the elder are insufficient to confirm identity, so the role is described as a priest performing puja.2012-05-13May 14 20122012-05-14A night-time temple ritual inside a pillared hall with striped red-and-white floor mats. In the centre, a figure with long dark dreadlocks and an orange-brown dhoti stands with back partly turned, facing a decorated deity murti on a gold-framed altar garlanded with green, red and white flowers. To the right, attendants in orange robes hold a plate of flowers and a metal vessel, and a cameraman films the scene. Behind the altar stand images of deities and a figure of Shiva with a lingam, with oil lamps and a silver-rimmed pot placed before the altar.2018-05-30A photograph of a temple shrine at dusk. In the foreground, a man in a white shirt and white dhoti with a red-and-gold shawl stands with palms pressed together, bowing. Beside him, a woman in an orange sannyasi-style garment holds a silver aarti plate with a flame, red offerings and flowers, while another person in yellow and white stands behind. Behind them, a deity murti in orange and gold drapery is garlanded with marigolds and flanked by tall brass oil lamps. Three people are visible.2010-07-07
