February 06 20172017-02-06A photograph inside a dim stone temple passage at Kanjanoor, with a crowd of devotees and officials. In the foreground a woman in a yellow blouse and white sari, with a vibhuti mark on her forehead, kneels with palms pressed together in prayer. Beside her a man in white shirt and dhoti bends over a black Shiva lingam with a white cloth draped on it, while a tall gold kalasha-style lamp stands nearby. Standing at right, a man in a white shirt and white dhoti wears a rudraksha mala, and another man in a white shirt, glasses and a rudraksha mala looks on; a uniformed police officer stands behind. Other devotees with folded hands fill the background near a bright shrine opening.2012-05-16A photograph inside a temple corridor of a crowd gathered around a golden palanquin-style ratha/shrine carrying a deity murti dressed in white and orange garments with garlands. The ornate gilded canopy has a tiered dome and carved figures, decorated with colourful striped tassels in red, white, blue and yellow. Many devotees, mostly women in saffron, yellow, green and pink saris and men in white dhotis, press close and look on. Grey stone pillars with carved reliefs frame the scene and green metal gates stand behind. No single figure is clearly identifiable as a person from the visible cues; the palanquin deity is a murti, not a person.2009-07-13April 29 20182018-04-29July 13 20092009-07-13Crowded temple corridor with carved stone pillars and sculpted figures along the walls. Devotees in saffron and orange robes and white clothing crowd around it, some with hands folded. Several people in the foreground are seen from behind, and a few women in white stand at the right. Attendants in white stand near the shrine. The scene suggests a temple procession or darshan at Madurai Meenakshi Temple.2009-07-13Crowded interior of a temple with devotees pressed together, many with palms pressed in namaste. Tall brass oil lamps stand in rows behind a metal railing, and garlands of yellow marigolds and red-and-white decorations hang from the carved stone pillars and ceiling. At right, a man in a pale pink shirt and cream dhoti leans on the railing, and another man in orange-brown dhoti stands beside a stone pillar. Carved stone columns frame the scene.
