Night outdoor ritual at a homa fire pit with a large open flame in the centre. Three seated priests in white dhotis lead the ceremony: one on the left in white, one in red cloth with a rudraksha-style mala, and one in white with a shawl at the centre, reading from a paper and tending offerings. Behind the fire stands a richly decorated deity murti or shrine canopy garlanded with orange and yellow marigolds. To the right, a large ornate palanquin-style arrangement hung with multicoloured flower garlands, gold ornaments and a striped canopy shelters a golden figure. Striped woven mats cover the ground, with brass pots, bowls and a small kalasha nearby.2016-04-03Night ritual outdoors under a corrugated roof at a homa or fire ritual. A fire burns in a yellow-tiled rectangular fire pit in the centre. A shaven-headed priest in an orange-red dhoti stands at left, tending the fire with his hands. To the right, a second person in an orange-red robe with a bare upper body sits with his back to the camera before an ornate golden throne-like seat decorated with a Ganesha-style deity murti, garlands of orange and white flowers and a green backdrop. To the left, a red-draped platform holds deity murtis garlanded in marigolds and beaded necklaces. Behind the fire pit stands a tiered decorated altar with flowers and kalasha-like offerings. A person in white clothing is partly visible at the far left edge.2014-11-25April 03 20162016-04-03Photo 11728687 +2 copiesNight-time ritual in a shrine hall before a stone altar framed by red curtains and hanging mango leaves. A golden-arched niche holds a decorated deity murti flanked by garlanded figures, with a kalasha-style brass pot at the front. In front, white-clad priests in yellow-shawled attire sit on striped mats; one tends a fire pit with burning flame, another arranges brass lamps and vessels. Brass oil lamps stand beside the altar, and bowls of fruit, flowers and offerings are laid out on the floor. Several seated devotees appear at the lower edges. Setting suggests a puja or homa.A homa fire burns on a square fire pit of white bricks on a polished reddish-brown floor inside a temple hall. A woman in a white sari sits cross-legged at left with a metal tray of offerings, and a second person in white clothing kneels at the fire holding an open book or sheet. Brass lamps stand beside the pit. Around it are plates of fruit, rice, coloured powders, flowers, betel leaves and small bowls. Behind them stands a deity murti with garlands, flanked by two orange-robed standing figures, and at right a framed portrait shows a figure in orange robes with a rudraksha mala seated on a fur-covered seat.
