Behind him, rows of men in white with yellow or red shawls sit in meditation or prayer. Whitewashed buildings, a thatched fence and white stupa-like structures complete the setting. Around a dozen young men sit cross-legged in circular raised pits, each with a small fire burning at the edge, smoke drifting through the scene. No individual is identifiable as a person from appearance, and the scene shows only devotees performing the tapas practice.2010-06-13Outdoor ritual scene on bare reddish-brown earth where many people sit cross-legged in concentric rings of smouldering and burning logs, a fire-pit style arrangement. In the foreground, a shaved-headed man in a saffron-orange robe sits with hands folded in his lap, eyes closed. Behind him, a man in white garments and a rudraksha mala sits on a low seat, and several others wear white or orange clothing. Smoke rises from the circular fire lines. A young man in a flowing saffron-orange robe sits cross-legged at the centre on a raised mound inside a ring of smouldering ash and charred logs, eyes closed in meditation. Around him, several people in white clothes sit in similar fire rings, with yellow shawls and a purple head covering visible; smoke drifts across the scene and a few partially burned logs lie on the ground. a person is named on the page, but the central figure's appearance is not clearly consistent with the ornate cues needed for a confident identification, so the figure is described by role as a meditating devotee in orange robes.2010-06-13August 18 20062006-08-18
