Above the entrance rises a colourful gopuram with painted deity figures, including a central seated goddess flanked by attendants in blue and red. Inside the doorway, a figure in an orange-red robe stands at the threshold, partly obscured by the crowd; the page does not confirm the presence of a person, and appearance alone is insufficient to identify him. Most people wear white shirts, checked shirts and lungis. Two white bulls sit on the roof corners. Carved Tamil lettering runs along the facade.2009-02-02June 24 20142014-06-24 +1 copiesPhoto 11687514 +2 copiesA dense street procession in a village lane with a crowd of men, women and children pressing forward with raised arms. In the foreground a young man in a brown shirt and checked lungi looks toward the camera, and a middle-aged man in a white shirt stands at centre. On the right, several women in colourful saris carry brass pots topped with fronds and flower garlands on their heads, a ritual procession style. Above them are ornate multicoloured canopy umbrellas and a yellow-and-red decorated palanquin-style structure with flower garlands. Behind the crowd a white SUV and a tiled-roof house with festoons of flowers and banana leaves line the road. Two photographers with cameras stand at the left edge.2008-11-24A dense outdoor street procession in a village setting with tiled roofs, palm trees and a parked white van. Women in bright blue, teal and white saris carry brass pots and tall decorated trays heaped with flowers, fruit and green leaves under colourful fringed parasol-like canopies in red, yellow and blue. Many crowded men and boys in checked shirts, white kurtas and caps press around them, some raising hands, and a cameraman with a video camera films the crowd. Marigold garlands and yellow flowers adorn the women's hair. Scene shows a festival-style procession with offering trays, with no clearly visible a person figure.2008-11-24A village street procession in daylight under a partly cloudy sky, with palm trees and white-walled houses with terracotta-tiled roofs behind the crowd. At left, a decorated palanquin or float carries deity murti figures and is attended by men in white shirts and orange-clad attendants. Women in saris, many with flower garlands, carry brass trays of green leafy offerings on their heads. Men in white dhotis and shirts stand along the roadside watching, and several people in the foreground walk with the procession. Some figures appear partly obscured by the crowd.2006-11-13February 02 20092009-02-02Outdoor scene at a small roadside temple shrine in a village after a cyclone. The shrine has a tiered pale-blue and cream structure topped with a carved deity figure flanked by lions and female figures, with a red-and-yellow signboard on its front. A crowd of about a dozen villagers stands close to a green metal railing: women in blue, orange, pink and red saris, a man in a red-checked shirt, men in striped shirts and white dhotis, and a young girl in white at the front. A fallen tree trunk and debris lie on the ground, and palm trees surround the area.2012-01-07October 01 20062006-10-01July 01 20142014-07-01
