July 12 20162016-07-12Photograph of a group of saffron-robed sannyasi devotees in a warmly lit hall with gold ornamental panels behind them. Several shaved-headed men wear orange and red-gold shawls, rudraksha malas and a forehead tilak, and hold handfuls of yellow flower petals or rice. The central younger man in an orange robe and dark beads looks to the side while others lean in beside him. A gold-framed chandelier glows at left. The figure at the centre is a priest-like devotee; no candidate is clearly identifiable by appearance.2016-07-12November 07 20112011-11-07Photograph of a group of shaved-headed sannyasis in saffron and orange robes gathered indoors near golden ornate panels and a red umbrella-like canopy. Several wear rudraksha malas; they hold cupped hands filled with yellow flower petals or grain, and one standing figure at right pours or offers petals over another monk's head. A middle-aged man in a white shirt stands at the far right. The setting suggests a ritual offering or blessing with petals, possibly a darshan or puja.2016-07-12A photograph of a group of shaved-headed young men and boys in saffron-orange cloth and rudraksha malas, standing in a line and receiving or eating food from their hands during a ritual distribution inside a hall. Several have white tilak markings on their foreheads and gold hoop earrings. Some hold yellow rice or prasadam in cupped hands, and an adult in an orange shawl feeds a child. Other devotees in orange and red stand in the background of a plain pink-walled room.2014-09-13September 13 20142014-09-13A photograph of an indoor gathering of shaved-headed monks and devotees in saffron and orange robes. In the foreground, a man in an orange wrap with a red and gold border, wearing a black skullcap and a long necklace of dark rudraksha beads, cups handfuls of yellow-green offering in his hands and looks upward while another monk in a red-orange robe reaches to place offering on his head. Several other monks in saffron robes stand behind, some holding offerings, with a gold and red ceremonial umbrella-like canopy and gold ornaments in the background. The man in the foreground has distinctive long rudraksha malas and a skullcap, but the cues are not strong enough to confirm a probable identity.2016-07-12A photograph of a ritual feeding among saffron-robed sannyasis in a hall with red drapes. In the centre, a clean-shaven man with short hair, a dark rudraksha mala and a small pendant holds cupped hands full of pale food and opens his mouth. To the right, a bald sannyasi in orange robes with a red sash and beaded bracelets lifts a morsel toward him. Other monks in orange and red robes hold rice-like food in their palms in the background, and a golden ornament is partly visible at left.2016-08-02Three men in saffron-orange sleeveless robes stand in a bright hall. The two on the left and right, with white horizontal vibhuti stripes across their foreheads and rudraksha malas around their necks, hold handfuls of cooked yellow rice with green herbs. The man on the right offers rice toward the bare shoulder of a shaved-headed young boy in orange in the centre, who faces away from the camera. Seated devotees in orange and red are visible at the lower edges, and a yellow banner hangs in the upper background. The scene looks like prasad being distributed during a ritual.2014-09-13Several shaven-headed monastics in saffron and orange robes with red-and-gold borders stand in a ceremonial hall before a deep red curtain. Several wear rudraksha malas and wooden bangles and hold small handfuls of white rice or grain. The man at centre wears a long rudraksha mala, a pendant necklace and a tilak on his forehead, smiling as he holds grain. Another monastic on the right, with bare shoulders and white ash marks on his arms, offers grain. Behind them a colourful ceremonial umbrella or canopy is partly visible, and a mirror-like pole rises at the top of the frame. The scene resembles a maheshwara puja offering of food to sannyasis.2016-08-02May 20 20132013-05-20 +1 copiesSeveral shaved-headed men in saffron-orange robes stand close together in an indoor hall, sharing food by hand. Two men in front face each other: the one on the left wears a dark rudraksha mala and holds cupped palms out with a yellow prasadam offering, while the one on the right, bare-shouldered with a rust-red shawl and a beaded necklace, feeds from his own palms. White horizontal marks are painted on their shoulders and foreheads. Other devotees in similar orange cloth and white marks reach forward with offerings in the background, and a person in dark clothing stands at the right edge.2013-10-04 +1 copies
