Men in white dhotis with red-orange waist cloths form two lines, some holding hands across the path, leading toward a gilded palanquin or ratha decorated with garlands and colourful tassels and topped with a small umbrella. A bare-chested man in front wears a rudraksha mala. Onlookers in jackets, sweaters and a knit cap stand along the sides. Dirt ground and a metal truss structure frame the scene.2013-02-11November 21 20102010-11-21February 08 20132013-02-08Night procession with a palanquin carrying a deity murti decorated with a red and white flower garland, under an ornate umbrella and lit by strings of lights. In the foreground a bald man in orange robes, glasses and a beaded mala stands with hands folded, beside a second man in orange with a gold-and-beaded necklace and a gold-bordered orange shawl. Behind them men in white dhotis carry the palanquin on poles. At right a young man in an orange-and-gold garment and a tall patterned headdress, with a rudraksha-style necklace, stands near the procession. A banner with partly visible text is at the top left.2010-11-21A festival procession on a dirt road with a decorated palanquin-style ratha topped with a yellow and orange canopy umbrella, marigold and tassel garlands, and bells. Men in white dhotis and shirts walk alongside and carry the palanquin poles on their shoulders, one in a saffron wrap with a red-and-white scarf. A man in an orange-saffron dhoti with a rudraksha mala and a long-haired man in orange with a gold-toned necklace walk nearby. A multicolour umbrella with a blue-and-yellow pattern shades the scene; bamboo and a concrete building stand behind.2009-12-27December 23 20162016-12-23Photograph of a street procession at a Kumbh Mela-area event. In the centre, a man in saffron-orange robes with a gold-bead necklace and bald head holds a ceremonial staff and stands among a crowd of men in white dhotis with red sashes and rudraksha-style necklaces, several of whom raise their hands. A tall gold pole carries a round orange-and-yellow canopy with a floral design, and red flags rise above the group. Behind them, uniformed police officers and onlookers in saris and shawls watch from the barricade, and a red banner with a portrait of a bearded saint in saffron robes hangs on the wall. The central saffron-robed figure has a bald head and a gold necklace, and is a candidate for the page subject, but his appearance alone is not distinctive enough to confirm identity.2015-09-15February 08 20132013-02-08
