Annadhan in 2012

A photograph of a seated ritual group in an open-sided pavilion. Four men in white dhotis and white kurtas with saffron-orange shawls sit cross-legged on mats in front of banana leaves holding food, a brass lamp and small cups. A woman in a white sari with red and orange border kneels at right, pouring liquid from a steel vessel into a steel bucket. Behind them, a crowd of onlookers stands along a low wall, including a woman in a yellow top and a child, with a tall wooden pole standing upright among the seated men.

A dim hall during a communal meal service. Seated rows of devotees eat from banana-leaf plates on the floor. A woman in an orange sari with a red blouse bends forward, serving food from a steel bucket with a ladle. Standing men in white dhotis and orange shawls watch the rows, and a woman in a pink sari with a flower garland sits in the foreground. A photographer with a camera is visible at the upper right.

A photograph of a pooja-style offering in an open-sided pavilion with a thatched roof. In the foreground, a man in white dhoti and shirt with an orange shawl and a tilak on his forehead kneels on a mat, cupping his hands to receive food from a seated person in an orange robe with a long, dark, swept-back hair and beaded mala necklace. That seated person holds a large metal plate heaped with prasad and extends a handful of it. Behind them, several people in white and cream ritual clothes stand and watch, including a woman in a pale sari and a young man in white with a mala. A carved wooden chair is at right and a banana leaf lies on the floor.

Outdoor covered hall where seated devotees eat a meal served on banana leaves. A man in white kurta and dhoti with an orange shawl leans forward holding a steel bucket, serving food to the row of seated people. Seated diners wear white and red; a woman in the foreground has a dark beaded necklace. Other servers in white and orange stand behind a steel counter. A large framed portrait on the wall behind shows a figure in a white turban and white robe, labelled with a partial printed name ending in 'wananda'. Steel tumblers sit beside the leaves.

A seated group of saffron-robed sadhus and monks sit on the floor taking a meal in a hall. A server in a white shirt and a pink shirt with a yellow-and-red sash pours food from a steel bucket with a ladle onto steel plates. Several seated men wear orange and saffron garments, rudraksha and pearl malas, and one wears a red headband. Behind them more people in white and orange stand and serve. This appears to be an annadan style communal meal.

Standing behind them, women in white saris with yellow shawls hold steel vessels and offer food, while a man in white dhoti kneels at right, reaching into the bowl. Floral garlands in yellow and purple rest on a white cloth at lower left. Steel cooking pots are stacked along the left wall.
