December 23 20162016-12-23Three men stand waist-deep in water at the edge of a temple tank, wearing unstitched white dhotis with gold borders and bare upper bodies. The man on the left, with his head shaved except for a small tuft, bends forward while water is poured over his head from above. The man in the centre, bald, holds his hands out in front of him, and the man on the right, bald and wearing blue-tinted glasses, holds his hands together near his chest. Behind them a dark stone structure, red-painted stone walls and a metal railing frame the tank. The scene appears to be a ritual bath or abhishekam-style purification.2015-11-16January 02 20102010-01-02 +1 copiesDecember 23 20162016-12-23September 18 20142014-09-18A photograph of a ritual at a water tank with a red stone wall behind it. Several men wearing white dhotis and white shirts stand in shallow water, while a central figure in saffron-orange robes stands with a brass pot near a small red cloth and floating red petals. A sannyasi-style figure in orange robes and a shaved head stands beside them holding a vessel, and a striped umbrella is held above the group. Behind them on steps, a crowd of about twenty people, many in white and yellow clothes and some with ID lanyards, watches the ceremony. The setting suggests a water-based purification rite.2010-10-17A row of seven men and boys sits on stone steps at the water's edge of a pond, dipping their feet into the water. Most wear white dhotis and shawls with gold borders, and several have shaved heads. Pink flower petals float on the water. Behind them, a brick staircase holds rows of potted green plants. On the right, a standing man in an orange-saffron dhoti and shawl wears a rudraksha mala and holds an open book and a small tray. The scene looks like a ritual foot-washing or temple water ceremony.2015-11-16October 22 20142014-10-22 +1 copiesApril 29 20182018-04-29 +1 copiesOctober 17 20102010-10-17October 17 20102010-10-17August 02 20172017-08-02
