Photograph taken looking upward at a tall, slender copper pole with spiral ring bands, topped with a small ornate canopy and a dark bell-like finial, and draped at its base with green leaves, grass and white and red flower garlands. A woman in a red-orange sari with a matching orange-red flower garland stands at right, holding a brass lamp with a flame in one hand and a small handheld bell in the other, with a palm tree and bright sky behind. The pole is. The woman is the only visible physical person.

Low-angle outdoor photograph of a tall, slender copper dhwajastambha (flagstaff) rising against a pale blue sky, its base an ornate carved wooden pedestal wrapped in white and maroon cloth, draped with white and red flower garlands and green leaves, with a tuft of straw at its shoulder. Beneath a thatched palm-leaf canopy at the left edge, a man in an orange-red dhoti and shawl, wearing a red and orange flower garland and gold armlets, performs an aarti with a brass bell in one hand and a lamp in the other beside the pedestal; a coconut palm stands at right.

A tall, copper-clad ritual pillar rises steeply against a pale blue sky, its twisted ribbed shaft topped by a small red flag and wrapped at the base with green leaves and grass. Garlands of white and red flowers hang on the lower carved section. At the right, a man in an orange-red dhoti and a long orange-red flower garland holds a brass bell and a lit flame on a small handheld lamp, with palm fronds behind him. A corrugated roof edge is visible at the upper left.

Low-angle photo of a tall, ornate copper-and-wood pillar wrapped with white and red flower garlands, topped with a small figure, rising under an overcast sky with palm fronds behind. In the foreground a woman in a rust-orange sari with a red-and-white flower garland and gold bangles holds a rope tied to the pillar. At right, a man in an orange cloth and white dhoti pulls on a rope, raising the pillar.

A tall copper dwajastambha flagstaff rises against a pale cloudy sky, topped by a carved orange-painted finial, its base wrapped in marigold and white flower garlands. A single person in a long orange-red robe stands at the right, pulling a rope that runs up the pole, beside coconut palms. A carved stone figure stands partly visible near the base. This is the raising of a temple flagstaff.

Outdoor photo of a tall copper-clad ritual pole, a dhwajastambha-style flagstaff, standing on a carved wooden base wrapped with green leaves and white jasmine garlands, with a small yellow and red pennant at the top. A bare-chested man with long dark hair and an orange cloth around his waist pulls a rope to raise the pole, while a second man in a dark robe with marigold garlands and a gold chain stands at the base. Coconut palms and a clear pale sky frame the scene. Two people are visible.

Photograph of a flag-hoisting ceremony at a Brahmotsava celebration. A tall copper-coloured ceremonial flagstaff, wrapped in spiral bands and topped with an ornate finial, rises against a bright blue sky beside coconut palms. At its base sits a carved stone pedestal draped with marigold and yellow garlands. A man in orange robes and a white garland pulls the rope that hoists the flag. Behind him, two more people in orange robes stand, one holding a brass offering plate, with beaded necklaces visible. Sunlight flares at the upper right.
